Never seen the oval but the topic is the best and worst grounds to play footy on, not wich club has the best bbq or the best parking.

Modbury Oval has gone from one of the worst ovals to a quality oval to play on. currently all lush green grass new drainage system saw only one boggy game last year and it recovered perfectly for the next week. Also the one of the best Ovals to watch the game at. other than modbury... kenilworth, Wakerie,

SHOC middle school(hotdog shaped and sand pits over the cricket pitches) is one of the worst other than NEEDLE PARK(eastern park)

You guys have nothing- Years ago in Mallee Wynarka Oval had a sheet of limestone on one of the flanks, used to cover it with drift sand before game- boundary and centre square used to marked out with single furrow plow! Jabuk used to be burnt off 3 weeks before first game to get it ready for match play- hardest ground to ever play football on, not to mention the greatest slope from one side outer wing down to the club rooms!

Forgot to mention it was at Hectorville.

Others from my playing days off the top of my head.
Best:-
Goodwood
Adelaide Uni
Meyer Oval (PHOS old home)

Worst:-
Glenunga
Rosewater

Probably says something about the teams aswell.

that was a lawn bowls rink in comparison to payneham that year - grass in one pocket only - down near the pine trees. but as a kid those sort of conditions would have been ideal.

From memory there was huge late winter rain that year.
Many ovals were suffering, particularly those closer to the hills.
The SAAFL in all it's wisdom chose the play the Grand Final at Hectorville, because they had perimeter fencing & West End (major sponsor) on tap (or so it goes). It was dissappointing because plenty of ovals on the other side of town were in good nick & although it was a C grade match, both PHOSC & Goodys had strong sides with plenty of talent out there.

The whole actual playing surface was mud, several centremeters deep, with the only 'green' areas being within a metre inside the boundry and outside the boundry. It was actually quite a bizzarre spectacle. Like some sort primeval mud wrestling tournament where they sacrificed two brand new Sherrins.

Never thought I'd see worse than Glenunga's shithole from the late 80s, but I did that day.

i think that might of been the last match there before heccies got their new drainage system, the only part that goes to mud now is the turfpitch and outside the boundary where the water drains to, would say it 1 of the best ovals in the comp now and strong talk of another upgrade on the way

Adelaide Oval is pretty good to play on. Berri Oval is the best regional ground I have played on though. In the city, Broadview is pretty good, surface wise and atmosphere wise, although it can get a bit hard. Have never played footy at Scotch but it has always looked in pretty good nick during cricket season. Gaza is definitely the worst in div 1. I have seen some A grade games at Gaza where people can't kick the ball 20 metres. An absolute joke. One game there we had to hose ourselves across the road because the showers (shared between home and opposition) were so clogged up with mud that they flooded.

Thats another topic, grounds and facilties. Gaza and Seaton are the worst combo's out there and both in Div 1, surely thier should be a standard that an A1 club should have to adhere to, to be part of the league.
