Pretty sure we've had this argument before. THink it would be fair to say M/Vale have set the benchmark over the past 3 seasons while Reynella would be dissapointed that they could not crack it for a flag in the 2 GFs and being knocked out in the prelim last season. With the first proper trial commencing tomorrow between the reigning premier of the 2 local leagues I'm pretty sure we can talk about something else.

Who are Reynella playing in their trials? We all know they have recruited heavily but its all gone pretty quiet from them (on here at least) Have heard that they have been getting good numbers and things are ticking over nicely so far under Butchers fitness regime.

Whats happening at the valley. Pretty sure they would be dissapointed no to make the final of their own comp. Any reason for this? any major recruits or losses? Think i read on another forum that Ben Kovacik is training out there. He would be handy but good luck keeping him interested.

What was the outcome of the Cove 2 hour compulsory meeting? Have they found a suitable driver yet?

Are the players already sick of the fact their new recruit and highest paid player has not been training?

What young players have left Reynella for Mclarens?

Your taking the mickey aren't you?? He's their highest paid player? I wouldn't have thought Vick, Ramsey and Co. would be too pleased with an unproven player at that level getting more money than them.

Went to watch the final night of the 20/20 tonight and again thoroughly enjoyed the football. The first game was between Happy Valley and Reynella. Happy Valley ran out comfortable winners and were in control for the whole game. Happy Valley were more skilful and more direct when going forward, their attack on the ball was aggresive and put Reynella under pressure more often. Although I think Reynella played a lot of youngsters I would also say that Happy Valley had quite a few of their regular A grade players out. In my opinion both clubs would have got a lot out of tonights game seeing some of their younger players under match pressure.

The second game was certainly worth the $2 entry fee. Both sides Mt Lofty and Edwardstown looked determined to be the winner right from the first bounce. The pace was a cracker with players from both sides running hard and fast even though it was a very hot March friday night. Both Lofty and Edwardstown ran the ball into the forward lines with skilful handball and passing. Edwardstown made some costly errors in defence that turned the ball over resulting in Mt Lofty scoring goals. Golding for Edwardstown was in control at the centre bounces and around the ground continously taking strong marks and feeding of handballs to a running Edwardstown player. At half time Mount lofty led by about 11 points.

In the second half Edwardstown seem to have picked up their skill level, but kicking for goals let them down and they missed some easy set shots. Mt Lofty were rewarded with a very soft 50 metre penalty resulting in a 9 point goal (kicked from the goal square), it seems that the same stupid rules the AFL have incorporated are being filtered down to grassroot footy. Edwardstown kept attacking throughout the second half and Mt Lofty never stopped running. The result for the game went down to the wire with Mt Lofty sealing the match with a goal in the last minute.

Final score

Mt Lofty 1 - 4 - 3 (36)
Edwardstown 0 - 3 - 7 (25)

Well done to both Grand Final teams and judging by the tonights game and the way the players for both sides never let up I would say that both teams will do well in the coming season.

Good annalysis SH, all though seeing that result i'll differ from your opinion. On that result (Only) I doubt Towns to make the 5. Thats nothin negative interpreted,I just think a genuine top 3 SAAFL div 2 side no matter what time of the year would accomidate for a hills top 3 side.If those in the hills or surroundings want to take offence then do so,but ive seen all standards and thats my point of view.Hills still a great comp tho.

I didnt get to the big match in the end, but heard yesterday Willunga toppled Morphies by a behind.

Did both sides play depleated squads in the end? What was the standard like?

Since Mex you usually write sensibly, I would be interested to read your honest comments on the match.

PS. Chucks my good friend, did you get a touch?
