why does everyone rate the bays in the top 5? dont get me well respected club, but if you look at the GSFL website, havent had much come in, in the way of recruits and lost a hell of a lot of players according to this site. Is it that their local players stand up better than other clubs locals or everyone just thinks they will be around the mark each year regardless of who they recruit purely on the locals abilities.

I am thinking the same thing cuzzy, i know they have good local players, the baggs boys would be one of the best brother combinations in country football, but there isn't many players coming into bays, plenty have left and as the Goolwa boys found out in the last two years, you can't beat these top sides with just local players.

Skinner is the only one to put them in a top 5 position and as it has been said many of times looking at things at this point in time 5th spot could be anyones!! You stated you used to be involved with bays/victor and know all the locals so you should know what the quality of their locals is like.

The Bays finished 6th in 07 and I cant see anyone improving enough to finish above them. Fm is looking for his best year, cant go backwards [-o< , but they must pick up a ruckman.
Have heard Mclarens have picked up 4 or 5 younger players from Reynella and Heno will give them a MASSIVE target wherever he plays

From what i have heard the saints have recruited very well and almost too well, think they have exceded their points, this said, id rather recruit to well than not enough like some clubs have.

Heard Victor, Bays and mypo have have pre season numbers drop off!

Bays had only 8 the other night and Victor are holding with around 20, while Benny has the young Mudlarks training out of their skins. 25 last Thursday and he will be one of the best development coaches going around. A very positive man and good luck to him.

Strathalbyn
Compass
Creek
Saints/Victor

But when they do get hair on their balls they'll know how hard they have to train to be successful at senior level, and it won't be as much of a shock. If Pongy can retain these juniors they can build a good team around them.

Yes that was my point. At Myponga they are training very hard, but loving it. Sure they are young, but the enthusiasm is terrific. The tradition continues at Myponga where everyone who is there genuinely enjoys being there and they have a good time. Train hard, play hard!

Totally agree that juniors are the future but you need older players around them to let them develope. Playing a heap of kids has its positives but getting belted physically and on the scoreboard each week wont be enjoyable. These kids will also have to play colts aswell, 36 games in the season is alot 4 a kid whos only 16 or 17.

Yes you are right WoW. But at least Pongy has numbers and I think a quality person at the helm. They have had good coaches the last few years and the tradition continues. Looking at The Times, it doesn't look as gloomy for Yank this year as everybody is thinking. Only 1 player out and a few quality ins. Also Ryan Lewis could be back and not go to Canberra and with that there is rumour a couple that will come with him on top of what they have got. The comp looks good this year.

Lets hope that article in the times is true. Having a read all clubs are optimistic, it would be stupid not to be.

From what i hear Clayton Wilson will play the 1st 3 games and then head back to the island again, speaking with a player from Willunga who knows the KI scene fairly well said he was fairly certain this would happen again. For Yanks sake i hope not.

Can anyone confirm that Ryan turned down the offer of playing in Canberra for either Queanbeyan or Eastlake. They were the 2 clubs vying for his signature and from what i hear it was quite a fruitful offer.

Having Kids out is fine noone could disagree but you still need quality footballers and i know this sounds bad, but Pongy juniors havent exactly lit up the park in the last 8 years or longer !

Pongy have definately struggled as a team in recent years in junior, senior colts and reserves, but they do have some quality individuals that are going to be very good A graders.

Pongy are like all small town country clubs with jnr's they all go through a cycle and you develop some very good players in some years then things can go stale for a few years and you may not see too many.
We are now faced with bigger issues to attract numbers due to other sports such as soccer becoming a greater interest to young up and coming possible players. Then the players you do develop into good footballers you need to do everything possible to keep them around and happy as numbers are dropping in most leagues due to life styles and other things so other clubs will always put up insentives to lure your quality locals into making a move.
