Dog_ger has this only just happened or was it a day or so ago because there was a global problem with YouTube thanks to Pakistan trying to ban/block it. Probably a coincidence but could have had an effect on your ISP or whatever.

Sorry I can't be more help to ya but thought this might be worth considering before taking any drastic action.

Probably a little out of my depth here, thought the error message may of been of use to some of the pc gurus here.
Strange how the Missus computer is similarly afflicted.
You could try clearing the cache and deleting cookies. May not help but can't see that it would hurt.

This implies something local if others around the state [or world] are not having problems too:

Yes clear cache and cookies.
Try a different browser.
Turn the modem or router off for a while then reboot it.
Check your computers for malware.
If that doesn't work think about the local lines or exchanges - are any of your neighbours having similar problems?
Possibly your ISP's servers are giving problems. Years ago with dial up I was having problems with BigPuddle and they said it must be my equipment, but I used a friends TPG log in and all worked fine, demonstrating the problem was at the ISP [BigPuddle] end.

There is no file by that name in my installation of XP Pro, but it could be because we have different sound cards or chips. Also, it would be odd to get it corrupted simultaneously on yours and Mrs D's computer, although it could be done by a piece of malware if they are networked.

A search though does suggest it may have something to do with your problem though:

Don't know about the file you mentioned but what is it that makes you suspicious of it?
Can't explain why your wifes' machine is affected too but maybe you just need to increase the size of Media Players buffer.
I Googled "Media Player Buffering" which had results sounding very much like your symptoms and led me to this (from Microsofts site)---

"How can I reduce the number of buffering messages that I get when I play video from the Internet?

The "Buffering" message appears when Windows Media Player is storing video data in its cache (a temporary storage area), so that it can play the video with fewer interruptions. The cache enables glitch-free playback by reducing the amount of time that the Player has to spend requesting data from the streaming media server that streams the video or from the Web server that stores the video file (if you're playing the video file directly from the Internet). If you frequently see the buffering message, that means that the Player is emptying its cache (while playing the video content) faster than it can be filled. Although buffering is normal (especially if you are receiving a stream over the Internet), you can reduce the possibility that you'll get this message by increasing the size of the network buffer.

Keep in mind that the larger you make your buffer, the longer it will take before videos begin playing (although this also depends on your network/Internet connection speed). Therefore, we recommend that you increase your network buffer only if you experience small but frequent periods of buffering.

To increase the size of your network buffer, do the following:

1.In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options.

2.Click the Performance tab.

3.Select Buffer <seconds> seconds of content, and then type a number between one and 60."

Good Luck with it
