**** knows ?

Any how Newcastle have WON, One - nil over the CCM.

Boogaard, Aloisi both got yellows in the 90th minutes and Voik the keeper got sent off, so a disappointing way for them to finish the game.

Well done Jets.
I know it wasn't a high scoring or high quality match - but it was enjoyable to watch.

Aloisi gets a bit sulky doesn't he? Probably rightfully so on the last occasion.
Commiserations to Tony Vidmar on the result, congratulations for a great Australian player's career.

Also worth noting former Adelaide boy Scott Tunbridge is a member of the title winning squad.

As for the decision to play the game at the SFS - well done (despite the rugby situ).
Huge and loud crowd there. One of the best atmospheres I have seen in a domestic game.
Imagine if only 16k, or whatever the capacity of Bluetongue Stadium is, could've got into the ground for the match.
Also of note is that I could actually hear the crowd singing along with the national anthem - a very rare thing in this country.

2 real shames, the non decision of the ref not giving a penalty for the handball in the last minute of the game which resulted in people sent off, cards, etc and Tony Vidmar's mistake that gave Newcastle their winning goal in his last game ever.
Having said that I thought Newcastle definately were the better side on the day and deserved their win.
Great atmosphere and a bit closer result than last year.

36,354 was the official total.

Read reports on the game and Viddie is copping it re his mistake that lead to the Newcastle goal.

agree DW, Aloisi was carrying on like a little girl, as you said fair enough on the last occasion but he dropped his head as soon as the jets scored.

I watched all bar 1 World Cup matches at Coopers Ale House in '06 and when the national anthem came on, the whole pub sang the national anthem as one. It was brilliant.

I think it's quite rare at Aussie Rules, Cricket, Rugby or Motor Sport, but the football crowd seems to get into it, which is great.

Dunno about carrying on like a little girl but agree Aloisi was over the top with the first penalty he claimed, probably mainly frustration which is understandable not getting the balled delivered once decently.
2nd one I (or anyone who watched the TV) wouldn't blame him for carrying on over as one bad decision COULD have stuffed a whole season up. But who knows, they could have missed the penalty or lost in extra time or in penalties.
I'd carry on like a pork chop too if a ref missed a handball in the 91st minute when you're 1 nil down in a Grand Final.

Why do A-League Grand Finals end in such controversy??

I thought Vukovic got sent off at the end for abusing the ref over the non-decision but it seems to be far more serious than that....

Vukovic facing possible life ban

February 24, 2008

CENTRAL Coast goalkeeper Danny Vukovic could face a ban of between one year and life after striking the referee in the A-League grand final.
The Australia under-23 shot-stopper was sent off for violent conduct in the dying seconds of the Mariners 1-0 loss to bitter rivals Newcastle Jets at the Sydney Football Stadium after lashing out at referee Mark Shield for not awarding a late penalty.

The incident is set to come under review by Football Federation Australia's match review committee on Monday, with Vukovic certain to face a disciplinary hearing this week in what will be a dramatic aftermath to a controversial clash.

He faces a lengthy ban - and could yet be rubbed out for all of next season.

Under the FFA's national disciplinary regulations, such a charge of violent conduct, striking an official, carries a recommended sanction of a one-year ban to life suspension.

Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna admitted emotion got the better of his 22-year-old 'keeper.

"I think it's just passion and hunger and when you see something and it doesn't get dealt with, I think it's just that," McKinna said.

"We want passionate players and hungry players and it's just disappointing. Sometimes emotions get the better of you and tonight it did with Danny."

Electric atmosphere at the ground.

NRL GF had twice the crowd but only half the passion and noise.

Amazing things happen when you get actual supporters at the game.

Newcastle fans could have been a bit more gracious in victory.

Booing the Mariners - Aloisi in particular - while they were collecting their runners-up medals was pretty poor form.

Great to see Joe Marston at the presentation...

John Aloisi should get suspended but he won't. He called the assistant ref a "******* cheat" after that penalty appeal was turned down (the one before the final second controversy).
Kosmina said a similar thing and got sent to the stand!

Gee, I'm not sure what to think about that.
It's a high five. Silly, slightly aggressive. Strange to do that really....

Sadly, these sort of things after the two recent GFs don't help the game in this country.

The story is one linesman saw the handball and came over to the main ref and told him, the other linesman said it wasn't and told the ref to overrule the first linesman's call.
I'd find that hard to believe though as wouldn't one of the linesmen be near half way? :?
