What are the best football boots

Postby Bold Strategy » Tue Feb 19, 2008 8:33 pm

what are the best football boots you had (playing aussie rules)? i find most boots arent designed to kick a football since most are designed for soccer but the best boots i ever had were the adidas predator mania by a long shot, the thick rubber strips worked a treat especially in the wet...

The Adidas Copa Mundial have always come with good wraps at my club.

I use the Adidas Predator, but have been thru that many boots none of them last more than a season, the Pumas i bought lasted me just half a season last year.

I was a big fan of Puma Kings from '98 through to about '03 but I've switched to Predators since then and haven't looked back. I get a season and a half out of each pair of boots, does anyone get any longer out of their boots??

Wore Asics for the first time last year after years with Adidas or Nike, will never go back. Awesomely comfortable boot.

Oh, I always wear black too. Although they're getting harder to find these days.

Same here, wore Copa's for years but i found would only last me a season, quality feeling boot though. Now i'm on the Asic Lethals. Heaps more comfortable and get 1 - 2 years wear easy. This years model feels real good and looks alright too.

I've had the same pair of Nike Zooms for three years now and apart from being dirty, are in great condition.

ASICS Lethals are the most comfortable boots by a mile, they feel more like a running shoe than a footy boot. I always wore PUMA Kings, but as i got older, and the legs started to get more weary, i changed to the Lethals. I currently have a pair of Nike Zooms, which i got at a great price. They are ok, but i only use them for training as the playing days are over...well, i think they are anyway

I wear the ASICS Lethals for training purely for the comfort aspect but during the season when the grounds get softer I like to wear screw ins. IMO keeping your feet on wet days is a much under-rated part of our game and I think boots have a lot to do with this. During the 90's Adidas and Puma made screw in boots with 6 sprigs at the front and 2 at the back much like what Rugby players wear but not so chunky. I found this to be great compromise between the comfort of moulded soles and screwins as the 6 sprigs at the front seemed to spread the load a bit better. These were the best boots I ever wore (for matches) but no one seems to make this style any more? Does anyone know of boots that match this description?

Always wore screw-ins too, were tremendous for traction. I remember loathing having to buy my first pair of boots with moulds, but I feel that they're better these days. Have two pairs of boots, one with shallow moulds and one with deeper moulds. Always worn Puma, perhaps only for sentimentality.

I'm a big fan of the grass cats. Kudos to anyone that wears them, I've found that those that wear them have less lower limb injuries, including things like shinsplints because of the cushioning and fit and with todays weather conditions there's not much need for a screw in anymore anyway.

In saying that though, Macca always says a decent player will always carry 2 pairs of boots and one shall be a pair of screw ins..

Yeah, I have asics grass cats. Best boots I've ever had. Lasted four seasons too. I was always a screw in fan and still have a pair of nike screw ins, also four years old that look like brand new! Not much call for them these days. (also very good boots)

Because black boots don't win votes, do they?

If you're getting Screws, make sure there is plenty of cushioning at the top of the boot, I've had a few blokes that aren't used to them that claim they can feel the screws digging into their feet (if that makes any sense)

I used to wear grass cats on hard grounds or normally the first few rounds until the wet came. I had a pair of blades for about 3 years best boots ever comfortable and a great pair of boots.
