Well batted by Watson.

Edmonson has taken all 6 wickets so far.

Easy turbo, I saw G.Manou score 98 today so relax, one knock does not make him a test player.

So if Manou outscored Watto.... he should be next in line.

Impressive average too. Mal I hope you are taking the piss with the "he's back" line, he has one decent inning in ten, the rest are terrible. He's a dud.

Based on what? An 80 and 30 in a first class game and a 46 in an one dayer? Gee really piling on the runs

Rod just have a look at Watsons performances in o/d and 20/20 cricket in the last 12 months
When you see his record you might change your tune
Look at his limited overs form in International and domestic levels in those 12 months
What you will find might shock you
He is clearly a batsman who is close to playing in the AU o/d team as a BATSMAN

Dear ROD/NFC
Just a few stats for both of you to 'massdebate' over

WATSON SEASON 2007-2008

PURA CUP
10 INNINGS
191 RUNS
19-1 AVERAGE

FORD RANGER CUP
5 INNINGS
192 RUNS
38-4 AVERAGE

20/20 CUP
5 INNINGS
144 RUNS
48-0 AVERAGE

My ratings

PURA CUP
pathetic as an opener and trying to bowl as well FAILED disMALly
as a middle order batter non bowler averages 59-5 VERY GOOD

FORD RANGER
that average of 38-4 is good in domestic cricket
thats about what to expect from him

20/20
sensational average of 48, thats very rare in 20/20
very very good strike rate as well

SUMMARY
same old same old
fields ok
bowls garbage [was good when quick a few years back but not now]
good limited overs batsman[even Rod agrees]
BUT
I really thought he would be a better batsman in the pura cup
perhaps in the middle order he will be and E.S.P.ecially if he does not bowl

ROD/NFC
Over and out.

can i ask why so much ill feeling toward watto?
i think its a real shame he hasnt been able to forfill his potential & dreams...............

lets hope that one day the spark will return and he can make some use of that enormous potential he once proudly displayed.....

i for one would love him to regain full form and fitness and once again be considered for a baggy green........

its always easy to kick a bloke when he's down..........lets try and boost him till hes back up again....

just a thought ladies & gentleman

191 at 19.10. If he was a gun his supporters just wouldn't be getting excited about the above figures.

I think you'll find it is just a backlash against a massive overrating of a player who so far hasn't been able to fulfill his potential rather than a personal attack on Watson. I have stated in this thread that Watto is a dud but I hope he proves me wrong. You back anyone who wears an Aussie shirt and that's the bottom line. You also bag any bloke who gets an Aussie shirt if you don't feel it's deserved. It's the nature of the beast.

Maybe they are,but I feel the selection policy of chasing the elusive all-rounder has been quenched by Warnes retirement leaving no front line quality spinner in our ranks. This in turn makes Symonds offies look alot better (dont get me wrong ,I rate his ability to bowl spin) and therefore our Magill-Hogg and co look no where near as good.

Back to the point,Symonds rise and rise in both forms of the game has ended Watsons baggy green aspirations,in my opinion.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

This might be a silly question (or two):

1. If Watto is selected, then who does he replace... need an answer for both Tests and ODI's.
The easy answers would have been James Hopes in ODI's, except that we don't want Watto bowling anymore, and Hopes has been doing a damn good job, as well as doing his bit with the bat.
As far as Tests go, it might've been a closely run thing with Roy (before he started destroying Test attacks), and again if he's not bowling, that'll really hurt his chances.... Interesting to hear others input...

2. Even if he's good enough (as a middle order batsman) to make either side, is he THAT DAMN GOOD that he leapfrogs DJ Hussey...?
SAS's goal tally- 0
WCP's goal tally- 0
