Can anyone shed any light on Karoonda? I have heard that their players are now at other clubs?

Dunno what has happened to their players but apparently they are struggling for numbers, to the point of struggling to field 2 teams this year.

Trained with vanders last night seem like a good blokes looks to go alright too. looks like we had picked up some handy blokes only early yet long way to go. lots of storys going around about karoonda my gut feeling and talking to blokes is that they will fold just simply havent got the players they have given themselves two week to find a coach and ten players just cant see it happening

It will be a sad day for country footy if it is the end of Karoonda.

We are not talking about a town losing their club but an entire district covering hundreds of square Km's.

Surely for the sake of their juniors and their netballers and for the Mallee FL they could continue on with just an A grade for now.

I completly agree with all you said here supa. It's a real shame whenever a club gets in this situation. Not only for the club, but also for the entire district and league.

Think thats what makes Peake such a great club. Not much success over the years but always puts the teams on the park. Vanders goes alright Bigdog. Played footy with him at United. Have you seen young frith yet. That boy can play

If Karoonda fold where will the players they have at the moment go? It would be a shame for the dedicated blokes and promising youngsters to miss out on a game alltogether.

Paul Boughen who coaches East Murray is a former Karoonda coach, he has a few former Karoonda players on his books already, so I imagine he would pick up a few east of Karoonda.

A mate of mine who lives at Halidon transferred from East Murray to Karoonda when the Murray Lands league folded not so much for himself but to give his kids more opportunities. He has two boys about to play A grade who now more than likely will play for East Murray.

the problem with karoonda is that the only decent player they have other than simon martin are on the wrong side of 30. Blokes like scotty huchs and hocko, bruce kerr etc will give it away. so i dont think other clubs will pick up to many players if karoonda fold. Alot of the b graders were only playing last year just to help out so they just want play at all

Does that mean that if any Karoonda Players happened to drift south in your direction BD that you would turn them away, and use age as an excuse? I personally think that the likes of Simon Martin and Hocko will travel to Lameroo (so I hear) and the younger ones, THiele's, Boughens etc will go Murray Bridge direction.
On the whole a poor scenario for Mallee Footy. Would be good if the meeing of heirachy (Jackson, Huxtable and RM League officials) that is supposed to take place will encourage Meningie and Tailem Bend to look at our league as a viable option. Obviously more reshuffling will need to be done with the RMFL, but this is where the SANFL should step in, to organise the comps a bit to keep football in these areas sustainable.

Heard that Jackson and a number of Assoc. delegates from both MFL and RMFL as well as SANFL people were supposed to be getting together to see if they could organise a solution to the MFL problem. OBviously this being the start of something much worse. Re-allocating teams to possibly different leagues etc. to solve the problem. TIm Jackson may know more. But we know that Fats Huxtable has always had a fair bit to say about this and with his involvement with Karoonda, the whole state and SANFL will know plenty. He will make noise until the solution is found. ANd good on him. If it is for the benefit of football.
