Actually I think that you will find that Cossie's best form was before he lost the weight.

Actually I think you'll find that Cossie's rich vein of form came after he was suspended for being too fat!! Came back into the team once he reached the target weight the SACA had set for him and finished just behind Darren Lehmann as our highest run scorer that year.

Tell that to the New Zealand cricket team who have just seen a guy bigger than Cosgrove, Jesse Ryder, smash 79 not out off 62 balls to win a ODI against New Zealand. What stops guys like Mark Cosgrove from achieving is more likely to be knockers like we have on this site than their actual build. How about being supportive about people representing our State rather than constantly getting stuck into them?
Cheers[/quote]

think you would find that ryder wouldnt be as fat as cozzie, not unless cozzie likes wearing skin tight shirts & ryder wears baggy shirts, because ryders gut didnt hang that much over his pants & didnt look like he had a pillow down his backside

It's more likely the fact that he gets to 20 and gets out

Was Cossie not in the Australia A side before the SACA weight plan?

So we are agreeing that he was showing form with the bat before he was told to lose weight. Thanks for that, Specky.

Yeah I guess your right BDP! But, its fair to say he displayed better form once he lost the weight!! I would regard Australia better than Australia A. Not sure about you....

I think you might find Mathew Elliot is off to India for the 20/20 comp in April. Hence the reason for his retirement.

I'm a HUGE fan of Cossie but looking at him last night was a disgrace. The man has unbelievable talent but I'm sorry, you can't play like that. It pains me to say this but I don't care if the SACA dumps him, he deserves it really. Shocking stuff Mark Cosgrove.

Unless you're suggesting he follows Elliott to the IPL, then where exactly does that fit in with this topic?

Self editing... realised it's not just the last post, but the last page and a half...

Also, congrats on a great career Matty Elliott, would've played a lot more international cricket in another era... =D> =D> =D> =D>

Lets get some perspective with COSI/ELLIOTT
Lets not compare Cosgrove who at his age should be approaching his peak
to Matthew Elliott who is mid thirties and should be declining on form.
Matthew Elliott played a couple of years too long
Prior to that he was and will always be a far superior batsman to Cosgrove.

Agree with SAS as well
If he was at his peak facing International pace attacks now instead of 10 years ago
his average would be much higher.
In all fairness to LEE/STEYN/CLARK 3 of the top rated quicks, they are not as good
as the quicks Matty and others a decade or so ago had to face.

Well well well well well well well well
Questions to be RATified and are they true ???
Matt wanted to play for SA next year ?
Matt wanted to play in the EPL ?
Matt wanted to play both comps ?
Matt was given a choice ?
Matt chose the IPL .... ?

Are any of the above true ?
Me thinks maybe YES
After all he did say recently he wanted to play for SA next season
And then he retired soon after

As did Gilly .....?
As will others ...

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ TALKS
And we dont need 20/20 vision for that
And you cant blame Matt for his decision

Specky, yes you are right and I am wrong (as usual). However, I will still say that if Cossie was making runs we would not be bringing his weight up as an issue. His weight could be contributing to his lack of form of course. However, I believe it is not the only thing contributing and we need to show our support rather than just get stuck into players.
To return the forum to what it is about, I have always been a huge Matty Elliott fan as most people know. Thankfully he will still be around to play for the mighty Eagles. Matty is planning on staying in South Australia (having just purchased a house here). As for the IPL, Matty has not said yes yet. He is deeply considering the offer in front of him though re it. Anyone who has been issued an offer would be a fool for not considering the financial merits of it.
Cheers
