A very sad day indeed. South Australia has seen the end of not just a great player's career but also one of the finest men you will find on and off the cricket field. For all those of you who knock Herb, please realise that out of the recognised batsmen, Herb topscored in six of the nine first innings this season. He also could win another Player of the Year Award in the One Day Series.
Herb, please play on at West Torrens - a place we truly value you and love you!

Great call, SACA should have dropped him so he could enter the Biggest Loser house. If you're a professional athlete and can't be at the very least avoid obesity you are not mentally tough enough to play the game. He must be the softest, laziest person in the world.

Tell that to the New Zealand cricket team who have just seen a guy bigger than Cosgrove, Jesse Ryder, smash 79 not out off 62 balls to win a ODI against New Zealand. What stops guys like Mark Cosgrove from achieving is more likely to be knockers like we have on this site than their actual build. How about being supportive about people representing our State rather than constantly getting stuck into them?

If Cosgrove is worried about what is being said on here about him and its affecting his form as a result, then he definitely has no place in first class cricket.

Not just on here but we have a habit, as South Australians, of knocking all of our top sporting identities. Has a bit to do with the inferiority complex we seem to suffer.

piss weak excuses BDP
How hard is it to lose 20kg- the public would be off his back- in fact most would get behind him and support him and life would suddenly be a lot easier for "poor old cossie"

Am sure that if he was making runs (as he was last season) you would quickly forget about his weight. There have been many Test players with Cossie's build over the years. The problem is more with Cossie's state of mind than simply his weight.

Cossie isn't making runs though. If he was then fine but he isn't and being obese cannot be helping. The opportunities and resources available for him to get in shape are all there and what most obese people could only dream of. It is obvious he just isn't interested in getting into shape and if he doesn't he will never play for Australia again.

As for there being many Test players with Cossie's build i'd suggest none were ever as overweight in their playing days as Cossie is now.

The new star New Zealand batsman certainly rivals Cossie in size. Anyway, let's get back to the topic: a sad day as Herb plays his last game in the red, blue and gold. Go out, make a century and win the Player of the Series, Herb. Then come back and lead the beloved Blue and Gold to another flag!

But is it any coincidence that Cossy was making runs last year after he had lost that weight and is now failing after he has put it back on?
