Gilchrist retires from Test cricket..

Postby GWW » Sat Jan 26, 2008 6:44 pm

The champ has retired, he'll go down as one of Australia's best ever players. Hopefully Haddin can step up.

Will make more $$ AFTER cricket then while he was playing.

Cricket will be poorer for his retirement. An absolute excitement machine.
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

He has changed the way teams are selected and I don't think many players have ever done that. I guess the media speculators have finally got what they wanted with him and will now concentrate on Hayden.

My guess is that the catches hes dropped lately, many of which were quite simple, were the signal for him to give it away.

As has been said previously the game will be much poorer for his absence but it is also much greater for his contribution.

Thankyou Adam Gilchrist for being you and changing the game for the better. Congratulations on a wonderful career and staying true to the philosophy of it better having people asking why you are retiring rather than asking why you aren't. Truly a superstar of the game who has left it in far better shape than when he entered it.

Up until the Melbourne test, as a keeper (a hack one at best) I thought he was 'keeping better than ever....stumpings leg side off Bracken in India, kept well vs Sri Lanka and got a bag of dismissals in Melb, but the last three tests have shown that he is starting to lose it.

My thoughts on his 'keeping are well known - not the best we've ever had barely in the top 10 really - but he became a good 'keeper through sheer hard work.

His batting was exceptional and will retire as one of our greatest ever test cricketers....

Guess it solves who will be # 400 now, Brad Haddin...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Congratulations Adam Gilchrist on a wonderful career, the best wicket-keeper batsmen the game has ever seen. We all knew he was going to retire in the near future and therefore now was the right time, as the other nations begin to step up to the Australians and its now time for some new blood. All the best Adam, you have done your country proud.

SPot on Spelly, he changed the way teams pick their 'keepers.
I'll go one better than say he is the best batsman/keeper ever and say he is the MOST destructive batsman EVER in the game.
More destructive than Sir Viv, Sir Beefy and Sir Garfield.....
A MASSIVE loss to cricket...

Obviously knows that now is the time to go, why wreck a wonderful career, he knows that now is the time to go, how many highlights has this guy given the cricket loving public over the years, first time I saw him bat was for W.A. against S.A. at the Adelaide Oval and he made about 154 from memory and was square cutting sixes, I would say tomorrow will be his last bat for Australia (unless he's out dunno the score), if he's in, lets hope we see a great farewell innings from a pure Aussie champion, well done Gilly, alot of your innings will never be forgotten

**** it's hot
Why doesn't Punter bring Warnie or Pidge on? Oh that's right
**** it's hot
5hit, I don't normally drop those
**** it's hot
Bugger this for a joke

OK, maybe not 100 percent accurate but pretty darn close I'd say.

Well done on a magnificent career Gilly. Haddin or maybe Ronchi have some mighty big shoes to fill. Don't reckon Haydos will hang around for too much longer either alas.

Why would they do that when we've just lost Martyn, Langer, McGrath and Warne? Nah, the only jumping around here is to conclusions James.

Now Haddin can finally open that brown paper bag he received along with his baggy blue cap when he made his NSW debut. :)

Tributes from all around the world for Gilly.

Gilly has changed the way cricket is played, now Aussie teams try and score 400 in a days play whether thay is tests or a 50 oveer ODI innings

Congrats on an awesome career

Haddin seems the obvious choice, however, the young WA keeper / batsman is a huge talent
