The history books show that Port has a very good record in years ending in 8.
1898 2nd
1908 3rd
1918 no comp (WW1)
1928 1st
1938 2nd
1948 7th
1958 1st
1968 2nd
1978 3rd
1988 1st
1998 1st

25 years ago the ladder looked like this

West
Sturt
Norwood
North
South
Port
Glenelg
Central
Torrens
Woodville

Central and "Eagles" at the bottom! Unlikely but West v Sturt in the GF is not implausible.

Purely for the sake of difference though, I'll offer Sturt v Norwood in the GF and Glenelg for the spoon.

GF Ports v Sturt or Glenelg
Spoon Norwood - can't kick enough goals in enough games

team on a backward slide - Centrals - i think this year will be Roy's hardest to do his magic - pull rabbits out of his magical hat .. i think it is getting harder

Most people are tipping South to struggle, and I think they might find it tough playing a lot of youngsters. Sturt V Norwood GF. Wooden spoon is bloody hard to tip, as there are a few teams which will be around the same level this year.I hope south will surprise, and play above expectation, but they will be in the mix for the spoon with west, glenelg and port.
Big improvers to be norwood, they have recruited heavily and will surprise.
Centrals to find this season tough going,( surely they cant make the GF again!)lost a couple of talented players, and if Roy Laird manages to get them to the GF he is amazing!
Sturt have lost a couple of players but gained some real quality, and with the team they have should be very hard to beat!

Centrals and Sturt GF with (and this breaks my heart) my South boys to collect our 26th spoon, however i expect more fight in the Panther than what we saw in the later half of 2007 but inexperience and lack of depth will be the killer as the season progresses.

ATM

Centrals v North

Spoon Norwood - lost their two best players McGuinness and Bailey along with Woenemari Pfieffer and Meesen and replaced them with an injury prone Ruckman, Dave Trotter and Dennis (who will be good) and a whole pile of Glenelg reserve players....hmm we aren't the best and you're recruiting our also rans????

Gee the only time I'll get to see the Glenelg twos this year is when we play Norwood
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

A shame they're about twenty years late with the misplaced confidence.

No smilie.

I didn't think he was cocky, just having a light hearted go at Norwood (and even Glenelg to a lesser degree)? :?
