Maybe these rumours of massive budgets for footy this year at kilburn are true....

What a joke!! They have recruited so many players it ridiculous. Wonder how they will gel together?

with the exception on a couple of good mates down that way I hope the clubs suffers for it and realises that to build a successful club that competes regularly in div 1 u need to BUILD the side over a few years and retain players not buy twenty players from here there and everywhere and try and buy a flag.

In a couple of years time if and when they move through the divisions a div 3 flag will have done nothing more that burn a hole in their pocket. It's just a shame that the salary cap is too difficult to enforce and in the end is pointless.
Harsh but fair.....

What prompted that post?

It takes two years minimun to get from div 3 to div 1, so maybe the plan is to retain this bunch of players.

Agree booza, people are forgetting how they got in the position they were in in the first place.
Mainly due to over the top payments.
O'connor gets what he wants wherever he goes.
Like i posted earlier on one of the sites, the Amatuer Leagues a joke, they introduce a salary cap, yet they can't manage it. Why enforce it if you can't manage it?
Its not the only thing they can't control!

Isn't the salary cap $32k? That averages out to $85 a game for each player if it was spent evenly across 21 guys. I don't think many teams would be going a lot over that.

Many on this forum repeats No Mercy and Boozehound's above sentiments ab nauseum, yet few are premiership coaches. Why is that?

It's not that simple to get players who are good enough to win premierships and then get them to play cheaply. I can't see what's wrong with paying people to play for a club within the rules.

Burglar, salary cap for SAAFL is $30K players & $10K coaches. How many Div 1,2 & 3 clubs would be well over in both areas???

Wanganeen.

Wanganeen will be away in South AFrica until mid February with the AFL's youth indigenous team. Fair to say he'd be the best player to ever front in this division if he stripped for a game.

i dont know Rupert MB but my local club would run a season on 1/2 that.
We are still competitive but the extra 15 grand would make a hell of a difference thats for sure.

I thought the salary cap was 35K.
I've never heard of the 10K for coaches.
Felch- the amatuer league are meant to police it & demand clubs books etc..
What do they do? sweet f!ck all.
Burglar- i'd like to know the real salary cap like you as theres clubs spending 35K-80K & the League know this.
Problem is they enforce something by mouth, but can't back it up with action, when clearly clubs are making a mockery out of the system.

Kilburn in their div 1 prime aparently spent some big $$$,so have some other former powerhouse clubs (Glandore,Greenacres,Rosewater). Isn't that why the SAAFL brought it the Premier League and the Amateur League system back in 95,to seperate the paying clubs from the non paying clubs. That worked a treat    . Majority of clubs from div 3 up (Apart from old schollars) spend big on players.Once you get above div 4 so does the player payments.

You would have no idea on what Kilburn spent on players mate, you have no idea as most of the posters who post crap... Like most, Kilburn do pay players, which fits into the structure etc etc, not all get paid.

OK, rang league about salary cap.
$35,000(inc GST) covers all grades. So if if you have 4 grades the 35 covers all teams, and what i can gather that includes coaches.
There is a form on the SAAFL site that states coaching fees are set at $10,000 but there is a section for putting extra incentives in for coaches that might not be of a cash payment.
How it reads, there is a seperate payment for coaches which states $10,000 but that is misleading as i was told the 10 is with the 35.
But like you said No-Mercy, who is going to police it?

if clubs are paying this sort of money for players then it is not an even playing field. The SAAFL should be clamping down on this "alleged" practice. Maybe the League should drop the "amatuer" in the SAAFL and let clubs spend what they can get.

Love Macca to death, but yes. Wanganeen an absolutely elite defender, also won an All Australian spot as a forward and played in a Port SANFL flag in the midfield at about the age of 12.

However, I'd still rather have had Macca play for Norwood, then Wangas.

Well he did play most of his early football (including his SANFL flag) in a forward pocket..
