February is for getting K's in the legs and building aerobic fitness, match fitness comes in the trials. I don't think you can push the players as hard during the week at training if they are playing a match every weekend.

ZC, I have learnt something today. February is about getting K's in the legs & building aerobic fitness. If you were a coach in February, would you touch the footy's? Is there a place to improve a players ability to change pace, recover from a short effort? Maybe an arguement to begin conditioning the body to body-contact
Even if you are off doing a 10 minute jog at training, please tell me how often in a game of footy in the SFL any player runs consistently for 10 minutes? Next tell me how many efforts over 400m an on baller does, next tell me how many efforts under 30m a player does?
So ZC, you have a talented squad & that is proven, & you have chosen to start later. I have no problem with that hence hy you may take it easier through February, but the other team are currently chasing you boys. They need to do it better, they can't afford to be doing K's in February!
There are things players can do in own time, & things that are best done in a group.
If you ever get a coaching gig, I will love to be your assistant, I think I can learn so much more from you.

Its not a countious week in week out barrage of footy after this 20/20 comp. Its Feb players will have a month even longer off of contact footy after these games. More then enough time to recoop.

With the droughts every side will have niggling injuries the grounds everywhere are rock hard and alot on the body.

One frustration of these games playing last year was that its over so quick gets annoying your just so keen to get into it. And will Reynella unvail their new recruits? Cant see Moore playing what about the others?

I think the 20/20 games are a good lead up to the real season and having coached senior footy in this league at one of the lower but improving clubs i would have encouraged the YOUNGER players to play.It exposes them to playing against good senior players and helps with one of the most important parts of the game in decision making. You can get injured stepping of a gutter so using injuries as a excuse not to play is a bit weak.Iwould think that Morphett Vale and Brighton having finished so late in the season would not be playing only to give the players a good break.Iwould not encourage my senior players to play in this as it would make it a long season for them but any under 21 players i would certainly encourage to play but with the aim of improvement and not all about winning.
If the only reason you play is for a beer with your mates after the game, your playing for the wrong reasons !!

I've just read on the GSFL thread someone asking for background on Matt Potts after sighting the fact he played in all grades last year at one stage or the other. Can anyone provide an accurate account for his ability? I wouldn't think he can be called a 'fringe a'grade' player.

Not at all P32, not at all. Would just like to answer your question with views from others, I run the risk of being biased.

Didnt see him get a kick when they played Morphies in the Finals. However if he gets fit and is there to play not just pickup a pay cheque (if he is getting paid that is) then he could be a handy acquistion. He can take a strong mark.

He was a gun in juniors. Did play a bit of B grade last season but i'm sure that was because he must have been coming back from injury rather then performance.

I think his fitness will be a key. If he does a full pre-season and is in good nick then he will def cause some damage. I think he might be a bit injury prone tho.

Pottsy played state at a younger age and was dominant at U/17 level with glenelg. Strong hands, good kick and during juniors was much bigger than the other kids, not sure how he would go now against guys bigger than him. Kicked 10 to half time in one game then did his hammy I think. hasnt ever really recovered from that injury but to be fair probably hasnt made a 100% effort to return either. Think he has a mate down at Encounter which prob won him over to play down there.

I also saw that final against Morphies and it would be fair to say that it wasnt one of Pottsy's finer moments! I know Matt personally and have heard stories from when he was down the bay, like when he was playing in the 19s against Port Adelaide (I think), kicked 10 to half time, then went down with a knee reco shortly after.

He played in all grades last year due to injury, but when he was considered fit enough was thrown straight into the A grade. Very handy player.

I also heard that he only signed with Encounter after Matt Size told him he was signing there.

Funny you should say he didnt sign because of the money, but that is crap. I know your going to tell me his good mate, Tom Blum plays out there, but if it wasnt for the money Im sure he would rather play with more than one of his mates!!

Can say that the "trial" pre-season Ben Stokes is doing at the Rams is going extremely well, he's enjoying the new atmosphere and obviously has far less k's to travel...

Would be amazed if he didn't line up for the Rams in round 1.

Spoken to the bloke himself and he's definitely at the rams, along with Jason Marks from Lonnie, good little goal sneak. Stokesy reckons he's working hard and keen on a big year, good luck to the bloke, he'll tear it up if he does get fit.

Weeds has gone and it wasnt his younger brother he hasn't trainied yet. Ive been out and there was no one being called Weeds running around.

Patt Gabb from 18's a few years ago is a plumber and ran into Matty Dent who works at tradelink at St Marys. Pattys one mountain of a man so Matty asked if he would like to play footy for Taliem and signed him up. Patty gave over Weeds number to Dent in the Pre season and he gave Weeds a ring. Saying that he reckons he'll give South a crack again but he's been out once.

Money was a small reason think you'll find that a few people at Cove got under weeds skin alot and couldn't handle it anymore being the main reason for him leaving.

Also heard that Lippa has gone to CLG not SHOCS????

Lippa is training with shocs
