Great idea Mickey but I can't see the GSFL teams competing with the top SFL teams. I think you'd just end up adopting a couple of the s***t ones.

Having played in both the SFL and GSFL, i think the top 5 in each league are very evenly matched, come finals time you can't go past Willunga and M/Vales, but L/Creeks dealt Willunga a couple of losses, i think you would have your top 3 right there with Strathalbyn and Reynella in the mix.

Would be very interesting, the drive from Goolwa to Brighton/Morphettville is just over an hour, thats nothing for a game of footy. I do an hour and a half to get to my club twice a week.

From my experience going inner south to GSFL gounds or even aldinga/ porties /noarlunga is fine with the express way... it would just suck for GSFL coming down the hill.

Don't beleive it's senior footy that would struggle with this system.The junior footy would struggle big time and parents would not want to drive over an hour at 6:45 am on a Saturday to Goolwa especially with the price of petrol or vice versa to Brighton.You would risk losing more kids to rival sports or even kids switching clubs to play in the Metro South Junior Football League.It's not going to happen any time soon but the idea of merging the SFL and SAAFL would be far more applicable and have 5 Northern and 5 Southern divs and the most you would travel would be 30-35 mins. I honestly beleive it will happen one day especially if the powerhouse clubs in the SFL keep thumping the minnows........They are going to get sick of it sometime.They were only enquiring but Morphettville Park,Brighton and Marion have all investigated on what it would take to join the SAAFL in the past 2 years with out putting in a formal application........I beleive once one goes it won't take much before a few more clubs do the same.

I think you have suggested a great idea there LK! I for one would much rather travel 30-35 mins at most to a footy game!

As it is i don't have kids at this stage, but sport is a kids life, parents should support their kids with their sport. I currently drive an hour and a half to my club two to three times a week, saturdays i am there at 8am for the mini colts.

Say it came in to play this year, and you had the top 8 from SFL and the top 5 from GSFL in div 1 and the bottom 8 and bottom 5 in div 2. Div 2 teams from SFL (eg. Morphettville Pk, Marion, Aldinga, Southern Hawks, Noarlunga) would need to make a trip to Goolwa, Victor, Enc. Bay (Victor) and Yankalilla. Mclaren isn't as far as Aldinga and is only ten minutes past Noarlunga oval. That is 4 weekends out of 20 that you would have to make the trip south, not a whole lot, i could see many families or clubs making a trip of it. The GSFL clubs already play cricket against Aldinga and many families have had to drive their kids to South Adelaide commitments at some stage or another.

I can't see why families wouldn't drive there kids, its for the love of the game and it will mean they will be in a much better, healthier and fairer competition when they are in the senior ranks.

Prehaps you haven't seen the price of petrol as of late and forget that the southern suburbs of Adelaide are majority mid-low income.Not to mention if your daughter plays netball how are you going to get from point A-B in that time?? Would be suicide if the SFL and GSFL went this option imo.

Yeah exactly,but its common sence aswell. I manage a shop at Colonnades and parents complain about spending $6 on a pair of soccer shorts.If you don't have the cash then you don't have it. Gotta put food on the table first

Don't worry boys Weidermann hasn't and won't go anywhere.... Size will add to there side they also picked up a CHB from Country Victoria... However, have heard he will go well but no nothing of him..If Size rucks..and yes he is a lot better than Graham or Ursino...Gill plays CHB doesn't that solve one of there problems??
Goodwin will add grunt to there midfield and also Baker back for the full year will add to there toughness...They are set again for another crack...

Ashley Baxter from Lonsdale training at South, looking big and fit too, hopefully gets more of a go than he did last year, big year in SFL if he doesn't.
