I don't see the need, the new Grandstand is being mooted as the issue but the Adelaide Oval Bowling Club is well behind a light tower so unless they're building a huge grandstand with the lighttower in the middle of it then that's not an issue.
Allegedly they're looking somewhere to grow pitches and park their trucks.
If the arches on the current members grandstand are heritage listed then the Adelaide Oval Bowling Club should be too.
The government pretends to have issues with less people playing sports yet are quite happy to throw money at an organisation which wants to kill off a club that is over 100 years old.
FFS if a new tractor parking area or an area to grow pitches is needed (whatever happened to growing them on the bloody oval) then find some area in the car park or get rid of Adelaide Oval no 2 or the indoor cricket nets. My god! How has the SACA survived for 100 years without this extra area?
Throw in the fact that Adelaide Airport Club are also having a meeting to decide whether to merge, wind up or move to West Beach with no license (hence no fundraising) so Ikea can have a bigger car park and you've got to wonder what direction the governments are headed. Pretend to want more people to play sport whilst herding people away from bowling greens into pokie parlours.
I understand there's sporting clubs closing their doors because of lack of participation but when the government contributes money to organisations that close sporting club's doors merely because of business interests its time to say enoughs enough.
They hand out tens of millions of dollars to Football Australia who manage to make a 11 million loss whilst also handing out money to the SACA in various forms.
The time to stop misspending money in the sporting world should be NOW! It's incompement!
OK, I might be a bit melodramatic in my prose but you get my point.
