Hogg has been superb today currently 79*.

He is in the side for his bowling though so i don't think any detractors of his will be swayed by anything he does with the bat.

Edit: Just gone for 79. Great innings nonetheless. Well played Brad Hogg =D> =D> =D>

Good batting.
But as was previously stated - he's in the side for his bowling.

Agree with most so far

Lets not get carried away he is in the side as a bowler how many wickets has he taken this test?

Happy to apologise if he takes more than 5 wickets in a test match ....... ever

He's in the team to win test matches. They mightn't have expected it to be with the bat but he's done a job. And the team balance requires a spinner to go with our quicks. For all this talk of having 4 quick men, what can 4 do that 3 can't? My belief is Hogg should be there so long as he's contributing, and there are no more worthy spinners available. And he should DEFINITELY play in Perth. It's his home ground, so he obviously bowls well there, and if it's such a fast bowler friendly deck then the 3 quicks should be devastating enough. Tait will have to bide his time a little longer sadly. Then again, that wouldn't be the worst thing for him. He's not done enough to be an immediate inclusion so let him do a few hard yards before giving him another gig. Did the world for Brett Lee, among many others.

Go the HOGGA!! Nice to get one right for a change. Well batted yesterday and he's already outbowled Stewie McGill so not too sure about where these 'he's in the side for his bowling' comments are coming from.

GO HOGGA.

REB I can't speak for the others but my point was that the apologies should come if he takes a bag of wickets, not because he scored 79 with the bat. His job in the side is as a bowler, not a batsman. I have been as hard on Dizzy when similar comments have come up about his batting for SA.

As someone said - if he scores runs thats a bonus and well done to him for yesterday. But start the thread when he does something with the ball IMO. Lets face it, in Melbourne he took a few wickets in between being carted around the MCG fairly easily. If Hogg's fans are going to use his 79 with the bat to start an apology thread at 1,000 miles an hour then I think we have our answer .....

He'll have a good opportunity in this test to warrant his own apology thread - if he's going to perform anywhere then its in Sydney. And good luck to him if he does.

For mine, a FIT Stuart MacGill is still the better bowler of the two.

That might be true, but since MacGill will never be fit again, the question begs who the better option is. There are no other options close to these two at the moment. Hogg is the more consistent, the better bat, the better fielder and has beaten many good players in his time. MacGill no doubt is the more brilliant and can run through a team like Hogg doesn't. However, Hogg doesn't send down so many pies, and doesn't lose confidence like MacGill can. If both are fit and in form, it's MacGill. With MacGill not fit and not in good form, it's Hogg all the way for me.
