Quiet Riot singer DuBrow dies
Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s hard-rock band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities say.

DuBrow, 52, was found dead Sunday evening, and an autopsy is to be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Quiet Riot is best remembered for its hit Cum on Feel the Noize from the mega-selling album Metal Health, yielding the band number- one hits on both the singles and album charts.

The band was among the first to ride to success on the wave of videos on then-new music channel MTV in the early 1980s.

That song was one of about 15 or so banned from being played at our '84 school social. Priests not happy with the spelling, which of course guaranteed it got played at every kid's party.

Considering kids got detention for responding in the chorus the one and only time the Angels 'Am I Ever' got a run, it's fair to say we didn't even put that one up on the list to be approved.

Yes, I went to a really strict school where the DJ list of songs to be played was approved by the Headmaster. Feel free to lampoon me for a maximum of 8 posts.

and presumably when it was played at every kid's party, the line "girls rock your boys" was sung at full voice, with an obvious change to the wording?

Incidentally what were the other 14 songs on that list? I think I might try and collate them all onto one CD

Let me think back to the great days of 83-84 and the obvious ones. It's actually pretty easy to remember a few of them too, which is scary.
Come said the boy - Mondo Rock. (Admittedly none of us believed at the time that a girl would actually grab a bloke's hand and say, please take me to the beach and bonk me senseless, I've waited too long.We knew that song was totally made up)
She Bop - Cyndi Lauper. (It wasn't until I was about 20 that I actually believed this song was about a young lady spending quality time with herself, but the one nun we had at the school had this one banned)
Am I Ever - The Angels. (While it wasn't officially banned, we had lost our spirit and didn't even put it up).
Little Red Corvette - Prince (Prince had very different teen years to myself, judging by a lot of his songs).
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC (Priests not big fans of Angus, sadly)
Roxanne - Police (No songs about prostitutes should be sung loudly by 16 year old Catholic girls on the dance floor because boys try and feel them up)

This could end up being a separate post -- Why I didn't have anything to do with my school for nearly two decades, because I had a lot of unresolved issues.

Whilst Priests and Nuns generally have some amusing views, surely they knew that boys will try to feel up 16 year old catholic girls regardless of what they are singing?

We had a similar set of songs banned from our school, but managed to sneak 'that' Angels song into every school social. The teachers were usually outside having a smoke or walking around with giant headphones to silence the deafening sounds to hear our chorus addition. I still chuckle when I drive past the Burnside Town Hall.

Errrr....sorry to be a stick in the mud by getting back to the subject, but has the cause of death of Dubrow been determined yet?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Sad news yes, with also not to forget former Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads life being tragically cut short
due to a plane crash back in the 80's
(He was playing in Ozzy Osbourne's band at the time)

But one thing that has ALWAYS annoyed the Hell outa me is that
everybody keeps forgetting
'Cum on feel the Noize'
was in fact a cover of the 70's hit by those British 'Glam Rock' legends Noddy Holder &
SLADE
GO THE GROWL!!!

I'm tipping Pink Floyd, "Brick in the Wall" was another not universally popular amongst school administrations in the 80s.....My school Darwin High was pretty liberal and laid back (like most things in teh NT) Brick in the Wall was banned at DHS, The Angels, Am I ever was a staple at school assemblies when teh "rock band" played...

Boys light up was another one banned Rog?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I predate you by a few years FC, as I'm gone well before Father Ryan gets on the scene. My top three (and it's tough to whittle a list of 80 down to three) will be
1. Father Lane, and how much he really really seemed to enjoy giving year 8s the strap.
2. Mr Gubbens (year 10 maths) for being 5.2 tall and wearing hot pink shorts in the summer.
3. Father Overberg (enough said)
