What's the best trilogy off all time???

Postby The_Bay_Boy » Fri Nov 11, 2005 5:36 pm

Had a discussion with a mate of mine a couple of weeks ago, about what the best trilogy off all time was.

He thought "lord of the rings trilogy"

I thought "Star wars"

Just curious on peoples thoughts. i've added some others for you to vote for too.

And please suggest others if i've not listed them.

Disregard Rocky 4 and 5 and I'll go with Rocky!

Mind you having said that, filming starts on Rocky 6 next month (I kid you not!).

ha ha :) i like your creative thinking wedgie. But premiership DVD's don't count

I was thinking of including rocky, but it's not really a trilogy.

it's like including the james bond movies, you just can't call it a trilogy.[/quote]

Hard to go past Kieslowski's Three Colours trilogy (1993-1994).

Every film - Blue, Red and White - is brilliant.

Probably has the best ending of ALL trilogies.

But also Martin Scorsese's 'New York' series...

Mean Streets (1973)
Taxi Driver (1976)
New York, New York (1978)
Raging Bull (1980)
GoodFellas (1990)
Gangs of New York (2002)

The four absolute classics more than make up for the two duds.

Some others to consider...

The Terminator
Alien
Baz Luhrmann's 'Red Curtain' trilogy
Die Hard
Batman
Police Story
Lone Cub and Wolf
Mad Max
Alvin Purple (yes, there were three Alvin films, sort of. The last was 'Melvin - Son of Alvin')

and lots of crappy horror franchises like

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
Hellraiser
Friday the 13th
Ringu

BTW, George Lucas should never be allowed to write, direct or generally be anywhere near a film set again after Episodes I-III, arguably the WORST trilogy (a thread in itself.)

Alien trilogy was the scariest for me.
Indiana got my vote here.
A lot of the trilogy's fell away in the third..? I thought they hung onto star wars a little too long..?
I think there was 3 Jaws...?
Smile :)

Jaws 3D no less!

Then came Jaws: The Revenge, in which the great white stalked Mrs. Brody from California to Florida.

Serious.

Star Wars (although it's technically not a trilogy anymore) and Aliens (we'll just forget about Resurrection shall we?).
Godfather is a classic though.

i'm surprised no one has voted for Beverley Hills Cop.

Eddie Murphy is great in that.

Sure it's no oscar winning movie.. But still very funny

Hmm a trilogy.. tongue in cheek maybe.

A trilogy where no one plays the same character twice? In fact, no characted appears in more than one movie.
