Bob Day vs Malcolm Turnbull

Postby Rushby Hinds » Mon Nov 19, 2007 7:38 pm

Someone told me yesterday that if elected, then Bob Day (Homestead Homes IIRC) would be the richest person in Federal politics, even more than Malcolm Turnbull.

Of course, neither of them could be in politics come Sunday morning...
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

I seriously hope Bob Day doesn't get elected. He is running in my electorate against the Mayor of Salisbury, who I have a lot of respect for having met him. Very marginal seat. Current member for Makin is Trish Drapper, who I have also had the misfortune of meeting, who is famous for taking her FB on a tax payer funded holiday a couple of years ago.

I have to say, Bob Day has the worst posters in electoral history. Anyone who has seen them will know what I mean.

And let's not even bring the H.R. Nicholls society into it.

As Secretary of the H.R. Nicholls society, Mr Day said:

"Maintaining the existing Award System - the principle cause of Australia's consistently high levels of unemployment and all its associated ills (drugs, crime, violence, poor health, teenage pregnancy and even suicide) has been estimated at costing the economy over $60 billion."
(Bob Day, “Contract Bridge”, Independent Contractors of Australia, September 2002)

“[An apprentice’s] wage was typically 10-15 per cent of the tradesman's wage in the first year....The solution lies in allowing… tradesmen and apprentices, regardless of age, to negotiate indenture agreements which satisfy both parties."
(Bob Day, The Australian, 18 January 2005)

Sounds like a fun guy to me Topsy. What's your problem??????

Why's that, redden?

I've seen many HIA apprentices (including the many my Dad has employed and trained over the years) and they all seem fine.

Yeah Ive seen them. Was living in that electorate up until a year ago. Back to the posters there terrible. Bob Day is actually trying to push his image as a normal working class man. Bob the builder I think he called himself in one of his many handouts (Im not actually enrolled there but christ I still get a lot of mail).

Nothing wrong with them at all.I was absolutly shocked when my firm started branching into fire protection in nursing homes etc that where HIA sites and not bigger MBA sites that I was used to.The working conditions were 3rd world in my opinion.A large cardboard box over a sewer pipe for an on site toilet, safety standards for electrical equipment that went out in the 1800's,no wash facilities at all and god help ya if someone from Homestead thought you were complaining ....I am ashamed to say I imagine its going on right now.

Thanks for clarifying... The magic word there for me was Homestead - have heard many horrific stories about them.

It isn't just apprentices that work like that though, it is tradesmen who are supposed to be showing the apprentices how to go about their work - including the conditions in which they should be working.

My exact point ya clown...No union presence at all on the HIA site .We came from the union building insustry and had never seen such things going on .Go have a look at any housing site in town being built today and see if things have changed and then go and have a look at any constuction site in the city . Do dont think union officials are allowed anywhere near these places do you.Just mention the word on the site and all you get is dirty looks .we know where we rather would work and our firm sent us away and sub let the job out to someone who was willing to work in the cesspool .
