GSFL Movements

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Re: GSFL Movements

Personally I am not in favour of it but I dont talk for the entire club, I will be bringing it up tonight at the club AGM as word has it someone from the Bays voted yes to it, I wasnt consulted.

My view has been stated previously mate but in short if the league aint broke dont fix it, if clubs like Yank and the Saints were desparate for it then maybe a different story but talking with LF makes me think the Saint dont like it much either.
If it absolutely has to come in to play why cant it be phased in over 2-3 seasons?

A few clubs in the GSFL have a high turn over of recruits and kids dont always stay on to play seniors, with us we only have two coming up in 08. The thing is every single club has a import turnover, Ive got players who want to play but are over the travel required, new jobs, cant train, new families, life etc this happens everywhere. There are not enough local players around the victor region to feed three clubs with quality players (Saints, Vic, bays) nor is there enough to feed 6 teams (2 from each club A/B grades)

there are plenty more points but the topics been done to death and no-one from the league cares what clubs think anyway.

what club/s are you from?

I think the Saints will be in favour, mainly beacuse we will be in no danger of using all of our points allocation. We are retaining every player which means that we can add about 6 to the list which is about what we want to do.

i know the points topic has been thrashed about but i think clubs need to adopt the approach that it is going to come in . Work with the system , its a far better one that the salary cap , maybe not structured right at the moment but in time and with input from the 10 clubs it will work . If you look closely at it you can work it to your advantage , you need people to look closely at it and you will find ways to bring players to your club . By all accounts with creek losing king , manuel , love and maybe more its not all roses over there . Affiliated with all teams in GSFL.

With LC likely to be weaker next year, will the gap between Willunga and the rest be even bigger than its been the last 5 years??

This whole point system thing is obviously being introduced to even the competition up, am i right ?
Then its pretty obvious the more successful clubs are probably not going to be too keen on the idea, where as the lower ranked teams will be all for it.
Am i far off the mark ?

we will wait to see what happens at the Creek. If the rumours are true then Willunga will be $1.05 favourites to win the flag!!

LC wont be weaker next year. They will cover any losses adequately if they have infact lost anyone.

Not true on Willunga either. Strath were a good side this year and the sides below will all be aiming to improve. It will be a more even comp than you think.

In saying that I dont think the top clubs are against it because they want it to be uneven. I think you might find we are against it because infact it favours us heavily. We have a big population and its not far to travel from town compared to the South coast, yankalilla etc. It would be in our favour to vote for it i reckon!

Felch , i think the points system is trying to be bought in due to salary cap not working , most know that clubs have broken it but cant prove it . Its healthy for the comp to have willunga and creek strong as it makes the others lift their game , i'll admit that some teams are not in a financial or geographical position to benifit like others , but a comp like the GSFL has always been strong and been able to lure quality players .

Cheers, i was just curious about it, IMO it sounds like a good, workable idea. Fairly easy to police and difficult to rort (Well, more difficult than a salary cap anyway)
I agree too, its better to help the lower ranked clubs improve, rather than penalise the strong ones.

No just a couple of their players have been in heavy discussions with a Div one side(not Seaton)... And no not Walsh from my knowledge, although supposedly the Seaton coach has been saying he's going to play at Seaton there next season.
