Maybe not exclusively SA, but:

1 The phrase "half-shot"

2 Lollipop workers who were, I'm presuming, part of the local Council and who would smile and wave as you went passed, rather than the glum-faced droids from contractors we have now.

I have a few lollipop companies as clients.
I delicately asked the CEO of one of them about their attitude in hiring staff.
He said the construction companies give them more work if they have the lookers doing the job.
The construction companies' employees are much happier.

For some unknown reason, I was thinking the other morning about when we used to use Chinagraph pencils at school.

Often for use on laminated surfaces which could be erased with a dry cloth.

Off to Bali for 15 days in June, daughter is coming over for the 2nd week, possibly one or both sons too. My brother who has been anti-Bali for the past few years has decided to come along too (my sister and her husband, mum and her partner are also going).

Sis rings me quite emotional last night as she said this is our first family holiday with us 3 siblings since she was about 4 or 5, which leads me to the 50 part.

Remember when it was fine to stay home alone as a kid and how much it would be frowned upon now, my parents would go to Port Victoria from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening and I would stay home alone @ 13 years old so I could play morning cricket, district cricket in the afternoon and organise my own transport.

I'd catch the 7:12am 450 bus on Saturday to Elizabeth, get off at the shopping centre to ensure that I wouldn't miss the 440 bus that would take me to Argana Park, hang around after my morning game to get a pre-arranged lift to my district game ,I'd get back to the club for awards, sometimes I'd have to double bus it home from there, sometimes I was lucky enough to get a lift with a parent that lived in the Barossa or Gawler, other days I rode my pushy there and back with my cricket bag over my shoulder.

Gee times have changed.

At the local coffee shop about 6 families meet and all walk to Alberton PS together, Mum's and Dad's in tow. Us? We'd have just gone on our own.

More like a black waxy substance from memory.

Edit:

A Chinagraph pencil (or grease pencil/china marker) is a specialized marking tool made of hardened, non-toxic wax, designed to write on glossy, non-porous surfaces like glass, plastic, metal, wood, and ceramic. Waterproof and permanent, it is ideal for industrial, art, and craft uses, often removed with solvents.
