And Grohl - definitely very good. No dispute. But has improved as a performer immensely since those days.

PLEASE don't mention Pearl Jam in the same breath as Nirvana

Not at all. It's an interesting discussion.
Whilst musically Nirvana may not have been as good as pearl jam but the passion they put into their music beats Pearl Jam handsdown. Some people go for passion some for musical ability others a little from column A and a little from column B.
Musically Journey, Toto, Kansas, Chicago or The Eagles are way better than Dead Kennedys but no prizes for guessing what I prefer.

Not entirely.
They did take alot of tweaking in the studio.
They were good enough to form a sound that proved popular, but only the base of it.
After many different effects and synthesizing, they had a marketable product.
The best bands are the ones that can do their thing live.
That's the essence of being a musician.
If you can't do it live, and do it good, you aren't worth a pinch of shit.
Grohl stands out.
ACDC stands out.
Nirvana, as a whole, do not.

Not at all. They weren't all that talented. They had something nonetheless, that many people, including us, liked.

Alice in Chains- Must have been 93 when their show here was postponed (F%$K!).

SNFU- Saw them once before Bad Religion in 96 or 97, had a ball.

Carcass circa Necroticism album- Was a year too young to get in when they were here. Then they went all rock and roll on us (although Heartwork is a great song).

I realise the thread asked for one but I cant narrow it down that much!

Sepultura circa "Arise" album.

I saw them in '93- wasn't a huge fan before the show, definately was after.
Necroticism- good
Heartwork- fantastic. Great album from start to finish.
Swansong- turned out to be their Swansong...

I guess I just missed Bill Steer's deep and nasty vocals.

PS just read they have reformed (minus Ken the drummer who had a near death health scare):

I found the beats & riffs to be quite catchy on Heartwork.
One of my 10 albums I'd take to a deserted island (ie Australia) with me...

Swansong= :Hangman:
