When can you drive again?

Well.... that depends :-)

As you can see, this is my left leg, so I could drive 'now'. However, legally I believe it's 4-6 weeks. I have had to drive to the shop/chemist, which is 2 mins away but it's not recommended, simply because if you are on Endone or equivalent it can make you dizzy. My lack of sleep is having the same effect as being on Endone.

If it's your right leg, or if it's your left and your car is manual, I'd suggest 6-8 weeks at least.

The Dr will only recommend you not to drive, or when to drive again based upon several factors but will not sign off on a certificate per se, because it's a case by case proposition and if you did get signed off to drive, and take Endone and crash the car, then he/she could be at fault.

Yeah have heard insurance may not cover you, my bad knee is my left, when I had my reco 34 years ago and couldn't weight bear for 6 weeks and was on crutches the only thing keeping me sane was going for a drive to get out of the house.

Yep, this lack of freedom has added to my cabin fever. There have been a few days where I haven't left the house. I've still got up and done things, but not leaving the house is abnormal for me. Driving relieves that tension somewhat but I wouldn't want to be in an accident and have to wade through that mire.

Day 28

Whilst the knee is feeling great overall, sleep is still an issue. I've got bad pain in the medial ligament area which I'm trying to deal with. But there are some learnings I'd like to pass on;

1. Time your pain relief with your bed time. I'm trying to coordinate osteo-ease and Palexia (and significant icing of the knee) 15-20 mins before sleep so I'm at my most relaxed and relieved just before bed.

Surprised you still have that much pain gadj. Seems some do better than others in that regard. Sure you are not overdoing it?

Edit: Seems to me if you are not sleeping, we could both knock back a couple of Palexia and uber it to the Clovey. Two or three pints should do the trick.

This ^ sounds like a plan!

Oh, I'm pretty sure I'm overdoing it*, however the lack of pain when I walk is not related (it seems) to side sleeping. Walking provides little or no pain at all, just the inflammation that is causing the knee to feel restricted. The side sleeping is opposite, as it is a stabbing pain in the medial area.

The hinged knee brace I have is doing the trick though, I'm sleeping much better even after two nights of use.

I'm off to the physio this afternoon so hopefully he can shed some more light on it.

* I went to the cricket last night - in a Corporate Box. We went from the Queens head, walked down to the ground then sat with my knee bent all night, then walked to the River Torrens bridge to wait to get picked up. By the time I got to the River Torrens bridge my knee and ankle had doubled in size from the start of the night. So yes in summary, some of it is self inflicted. I did 6000 steps for the day. Which is about my average for the past two weeks.

PS. the Dr has put me back on Oxycodone for sleep.

6000 steps! My physio had a conniption when I told him my daily walk at about the 4 week mark was around 1.5k! Maybe you should back off for a week or so and see if it makes a difference.

I'd have to agree. Physio said I'm 'well advanced' for someone 4 weeks in but yes, I also feel I'm overdoing it. The idea of me having a bell and my missus comes running to my aid might have to be revisited. However, with the Christmas period upon us, I think I'll get less rest the next two weeks.

My 'best' day, I did 8500 steps - that was week 3. I was very sore the next day too.
