Player of the day for Australia was a hard one

Do you pick The Trav 123 [85]
Or
Ben Stokes for his 2 runs , for his bowling 2 overs in the 2nd dig, or for his inept captaincy
The only thing of note Ben did today was shake The Travs hand when he got out

Captaining England is arguably the toughest gig going, most of his comments are scripted, his interview was off the cuff and his praise for Trav was brilliant.

Certainly didn’t expect that run chase to be that easy. Once again head showing why he’s a big game player standing up when needed.

Trav with the second fastest Ashes century by balls faced.
England's winless streak in test matches in Aus extents to 16.
Starc becomes the first Australian quick to take a 10 wicket haul in the Ashes since Craig McDermott in 1991.
Crawley is the first Englishman to score a pair since Michael Atherton in 1999.

Each to their own mate, I admire the way he’s developed as a cricketer and a person, I just thought how all he wanted to talk about post match was Trav’s innings, he would’ve been gutted after them having such control of the match.

1-0, that’s all that matters now, it comes down to who has match-winning abilities, the series will come down to individual performances, both teams have passengers.

The above article suggests England were warned. Whether the surface (or if the other players found the going tough), this is when Travball™ gets going. And as quick as one can in Test cricket, Head (TM) once again takes the game away from the oppo.

Sam who? Nice to see Doggett get 5 wickets to prove his worth on debut; Starc MOTM for 10 wickets is a toss of a coin I suppose between him and the above batwizard. I reckon England must have thought they had the key to winning in Australia after the first innings, and after being 1 down and over 100 ahead played like the door was already open to victory.

Day two stats- https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/ashe ... st-1512336
123- Number of balls taken by Starc to complete his ten-wicket haul, going past Pakistan legspinner Yasir Shah who completed a ten-wicket haul in 125 deliveries against New Zealand in 2018. Among fast bowlers, Stuart Broad had the fastest ten-wicket haul - 133 balls vs West Indies in 2020.

1639- Number of balls taken by Scott Boland to complete 50 Test wickets in Australia - the quickest to 50 wickets in a country, with Vernon Philander (1383 balls), Kagiso Rabada (1548) and Marco Jansen (1633) ahead of him. Brett Lee (2061 balls) previously held the record for Australia at home.

With the bat they attacked and set the toine
With the ball they dominated our aging fragile line up

I look at this game and think who is gunna turn the momentum
STARc Head Smith- they all need to take the Pommies on or we will be 0-1 down in the series

Geez they missed Pat Cummins alllround talents yesterday

Yep the 2 most likely players to turn the momentum ended up being STARc and The Trav
Steven Blonde Don Smith did his job by hitting the winning runs

People can what they want about him but great respect for him after he ran a long way to congratulate Trav when he got out. That was class after he ripped their hearts out.

Also saw an interview with Baz after the Test. Both he and Stokes have been gracious in defeat and have applauded the amazing performance by Trav.

You can’t ask any more of anyone in those circumstances.

There is a slight bit of irony in the critism of bazball from the first test.

For the most part it had England front of the test for nearly all of the game. Obvious come back is that 'but they didn't win it'. True.

Irony being it was the prototype bazball innings that won Australia the game. Further to that it wasn't necessarily by design from the Aussies and more because of Khawaja injured forcing their hand.

Not saying England couldn't have been more intelligent with the bat in the hand but it also wasn't the complete disaster many are making it out to be.

I thought Stokes captaincy and the bowling plans for that hour when Head got on top was more of a disaster than their batting.

Ultimately that test was decided by the one batsman that got away......just happened to be a brilliant Head innings for the Australian win.
