Those affected need to bury Optus in the courts. Absolutely inexcusable to allow this failure of systems to happen

Optus obviously haven’t learned from previous incidents on how to manage, advise and report, so this is a continuation of those major issues.

To not notify anyone when they knew of the issues is right up there.

That said, no system is infallible, and whilst it would have obviously caused great distress to those trying to contact 000 during the outage, calls to other numbers apparently weren’t affected.

Without any knowledge of any of those that tried to call 000, including those who subsequently experienced a tragedy, it would have been an extremely distressing situation to be in. They would have had to try to contact others to raise the alarm, or even go to neighbours (if they had any nearby). Regardless, precious time would have been lost doing so.

Optus have some major systemic issues that need to be rectified, and they appear to be in no hurry to do so.

What should be the response? There are regulatory means to punish them, but they have been down that track before and it so far hasn’t changed the behaviour.

For the victims, yes, they have a legal avenue they can take, but such action is never going to bring anyone back.

All very sad, tragic and unfortunately, avoidable.

I don't know if this is possible, but should calling 000 bypass all blocked networks until they reach a network that accepts their call?

It should be noted that Telstra have also inadvertently blocked 000 calls on their network in the past, but that was an unplanned outage. By the very nature of networks, the carrier will need to cater for unrestricted access to 000 via whatever route it needs to take. To allow this requires appropriate network config, which is always susceptible to inadvertent error if the carrier is negligent, which clearly Optus was in this situation, as they have been previously.

Very sad, does seem strange why they wouldnt give it a few more days, even at a small scale, to see if they can at least find the body

I admit I have no idea but, to a logical mind, there's something fishy in this event

Possibly sighting of him out Copley way a day or so ago at a servo by a truckie with him looking very scared with some unruly looking type, Police etc swamed the area however no results have been provided.

If it is the lad would give creedance that there is some involvement indoors, no way he would have reached the main road and been picked up and i do enough work in that area to know that people just dont drive off the beaten track for kms and then find someone wandering, let alone then abduct them

I sort of hope he has been taken so he has a chance to escape/be found but I also hope he hasn’t been taken so something bad doesn’t happen

I would have thought if someone had taken him they would have heard a car come on the property? Unless family is involved

Yep couldn't agree more.

If his been abducted its 100% an inside job, we go to Yunta a little bit and there is no way you could have accidentally stumbled on the house. Also like you said zero chance his made the main road without being found given the resources they had on offer. It would have take him to day 2 or 3 to reach the main road.

I refuse to speculate, I always hold out for hope in these situations, I cried all the way to work the day Chloe was found, I must have watched that footage a thousand times.

All those people that shit-canned the mum and step-dad, all the scrutiny they came under when in the end they were just a couple of grieving parents wanting their daughter back.

Its bloody sad knowing there could be a kid out there who is absolutely petrified, not knowing what is going on, not knowing what is going to happen to them, defenseless to protect themselves and undeserving of anything that is happening to them.

I know there is always a case of kids missing / abducted but this one being a bit closer to home makes you think more about it.

I've driven that way a hundred times or more, I always used to joke if you want someone to go missing, that would certainly be the place.

That being said, every road off the Barrier Highway is dirt, so you'd see someone coming from miles away, especially from a homestead a fair way off the main road.

I know there's a few creek beds/rabbit holes/washouts etc. that could hide a person, but something about this just doesn't add up.
