Depends what you define as too much.
Can Petracca get you over that next hurdle or do you waste another year with a vastly inferior midfield to the others competing for a flag?
Crows obviously believe they can boost the midfield in other ways such as natural improvement of youth

Christian Petracca wants to be traded to Gold Coast.

Adelaide walked away from the prospect of a trade for the superstar Demon.

Wonder why they walked away?

Theo Drop on X :

Christian Petracca asked the Crows for an extra year on top of his current 4-year contract, at increased money across the entire deal, which forced the club to reconsider its trade position.

He would have been 35 on expiry and one of Adelaide's highest paid players.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Actually don't mind what Melbourne are doing. May as well do it now, wait another 12 months and you are in trouble needing 2-3 years worth of picks to re-build around Tassie. Think this is the last year you would be able to 'bottom out' to get 2-3 years worth

Agreed, don't do a rebuild half-assed like Carlton are doing.
