Recently retired Gold Coast player Sean Lemmens has joined Port Adelaide in a hybrid role working across football and community, while Mitch Clisby has been added to Josh Carr’s coaching panel.
Lemmens’ role encompasses working across the Next Generation, father-son and daughter, and futures academies. He will also support player development, connect with pathway talent, and strengthen the club’s community impact through his work with Power Community Ltd.
The 30-year-old arrives at the club after 149 games at AFL level for the Suns since being drafted in the 2013 national draft as a Port Adelaide junior.
During his playing years, he also volunteered his time with the Suns’ AFLW program, engaging with players around leadership and team culture.
A proud First Nations man, Lemmens will settle back in Adelaide after more than a decade in Queensland, relocating with wife Chaye and young daughters Rhaea and Penelope.
North Adelaide premiership player Clisby will come to Port Adelaide as a development coach, following the departure of Jason Williams, who will return home to Melbourne for a new opportunity.
Clisby has been working as talent manager and under 18s coach at the Roosters for the past two years, while also previously serving as an assistant coach in the club’s league program.
As a player, he made eight AFL appearances for Melbourne in 2013 and played 151 SANFL games for North Adelaide, leading the side as captain for two seasons.
Port Adelaide CEO Matthew Richardson was delighted to welcome the pair to Port Adelaide.
“We are very pleased to have Sean and Mitch join the club,” said CEO Matthew Richardson said.
“Sean brings a unique set of experiences as an AFL player, with a passion for community programs. Sean’s history at Port Adelaide, being the last player to come through our traditional pathway into the AFL also gives him a great sense of connection to the club and what we are looking to replicate in a future context through our expanded academy programs.
“Mitch’s coaching experience and teaching background will complement our coaching group well. He won a SANFL premiership under our senior coach Josh Carr and alongside our captain Connor Rozee and ruckman Jordon Sweet, so he already has some great relationships in place. He also brings an important development focus to our program.”
“We also wish Jason all the best with his future and thank him for his two years of service to Port Adelaide.”
