The WAFL have signed a new TV deal with Channel 7.

Seven has announced an expanded multi-year broadcast agreement with the WAFL.

The expanded deal will see all WAFL coverage broadcast live exclusively on Seven platforms – Seven, 7mate (WA) and 7plus Sport – from 2025 to 2027, with a further option for a longer-term extension.

In 2025, 21 marquee WAFL games will be broadcast live on Seven or 7mate kicking off between Perth v South Fremantle, at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday, 5 April on Seven. At least 11 games will be played under lights.

Each of the 21 marquee games will also be simulcast live on 7plus Sport, ensuring nationwide coverage, along with exclusivity of all other WAFL games: including 76 league games, the WAFLW Grand Final and the WAFL Colts Grand Final.

Women’s WAFL and WAFL Colts will also be broadcast exclusively on West Australian Newspapers’ community sports platform, Streamer, for the 2025 season.

Explained by umpire observers in the WA press: Can't give away a 50 for timewasting when the siren has sounded; there is no time to waste. Hence no 50.

FWIW I thought East Perth got a good leg-up from the umps in the latter stages of the game.
