lol, these votes are crazy

“Matt Rowell has polled 3 votes in three games where he didn't poll a single coaches' vote - Round 4 vs Crows, Round 7 vs Swans, and Round 9 vs Dogs.”

This voting is utter rubbish.
Crows win by 100 and Rowell gets 2 votes but even the crowd groaned when NWM didn’t get the 3 against Melbourne

..... and they give Viney the 3 votes. Maybe they should rename it the Michael Pell medal.

Oh so lets give another award that the media votes on then? there is already 100 of them.

Its unique, its not perfect, but its how they see it...why not just respect that?

Not to forget the fairest part of the award, its not necessarily just the best player

Hooray! Some logic! I like it.

I agree, it's not perfect but because the media don't agree with it it 'has to be changed'. No it doesn't. The media just need to accept it. No doubt the radio stations and TV will bombard us with 'he was robbed'. Big deal.

I found it interesting that Rankine was still eligible for the medal.

It’s voted on by umpires. They are not there to watch how well people are playing.. The Brownlow like all other awards voted on by umpires are always subject to severe eyebrow raising.

Also, given that this cohort of umpires are the worst the game has ever seen I’m not sure why you wouldn’t expect them to have different views.

This I can get behind.

So, there we have it, the second/third best midfielder in a mid tier team wins the league's most prestigious award.

Time for the AFLPA MVP to gain higher status than the Brownlow, I think. This year's top 5 makes much more sense:

Leigh Matthews Trophy for the Most Valuable Player

1. Nick Daicos
2. Jordan Dawson
3. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
4. Marcus Bontempelli
5. Jeremy Cameron

Also, don't get me started on Mark of the Year. I lost count of the amount of times I said "That's better than Darcy's mark!" watching the round by round highlights
my yes be yes, my no be no

The effing umpires cant get the game rules right so why would you trust them with votes.

Don't give it to the media - use the Coaches' votes.
They see the game far better than any of us

Well, the umpires don't, as they award votes to ineligible players

The Brownlow is the Brownlow, whether you agree with them or not is irrelevant, they see and hear what we don't.

As mentioned previously that perhaps the APLPA MVP or coaches award should hold more creedence, well let it, have a dinner for them nights, cover them in glory and put it in the history books.

Obviously the Brownlow doesn't go how everyone thinks it would/should, that is the beauty of it, I can't think of a more deserved winner than Matty Rowell, he lives and breathes the game, he'd be the one handing the ball back to the ump at almost every ball up from the bottom of the pack, he is the complete package as a player, he does it all.

Couldn't agree with this more. The media have built this into the 'night of nights', the medal hasn't. Then they have the audacity to complain when it doesn't go the way they want it to.

I couldn't agree more with your sentiment around having other award ceremonies celebrated in similar manner, and if over time, the Brownlow loses its lustre, so be it. That will evolve, just like it has to be as big as it is now.
