I wish he would have decided to even just play in the reserves grand final this week and help the young players around him to a flag. Hopefully he can get himself fitter over the summer, be good to see him back in the double blues colours again but I feel like we have lost him to North.

Didn't something similar happen to Rysyck at North in 2018?
My memory is that he stayed at the club, and celebrated with his teammates, despite not being selected.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

And in 2002, Sturt captain Chris Threadgold wasn’t selected for the GF side.

In 2006, Eagles captain Gavin Colville missed out after failing a fitness test on the morning of the match. His replacement, Paul Stewart, lasted about 15 minutes on the ground before injuring his arm.

Battersby asked the question of Marty and didn’t get the answer he wanted.

I’m not sure who he replaces in the current side in the role he can play - not Lewis, not Snelling and now not Anderson.

A fit Crowden and Dakin probably further squeezes him out.

Not sure what else (if anything) is at play but it’s one of those occasions when someone doesn’t fit into your best side…. He just happens to be the captain.
