If you're including Ironbank & Morphett Vale

Might find one of these in the AdFL shortly
Well you can't continue in the SFL with no juniors, have heard rumours but nothing concrete, would have thought a decision and application would need to be made quick for 2026
You'd think so, but Noarlunga ran with no U17 team for 3 years and made a dog's breakfast of that age group. I always thought these sorts of decisions were locked in by this stage of the year.
Noarlunga for years led the push to kick OSB/Lonsdale and Hackham out for not having a full set of Juniors on a Saturday.

Reckon Morphy Park & Marion were also in the same boat there, some of the double & triple ups were ridiculous.

From memory, Brighton played Reynella three times in four weeks in the U14s

With all due respect, not sure the AdFL needs these clubs.. and if they wanted to come in, you'd think it would have to be around 2 year transition to allow current clubs opportunity to prepare given their ability to be promoted / relegated would likely be compromised.

It would only be Ironbank moving, Morphett Vale would never move, it just doesn't make any sense

@Down the Hill how long was the process when Brighton moved?

Brighton were clearly a better club and made the AdelFL stronger as a result, though. Isn't that the aim of the league?

Is it though?

AdFL's priority must rest with it's current member clubs .. no doubt another new club could add strength, and i'm not saying it might not happen one day, but would think it would need to be a stepped approach to minimise the impact on far more clubs.

Reality is, whether they're good clubs or not - the league doesn't need them.

The other question is where does it stop? If you add one or two to make 69 or 70 clubs, it works fine if there's enough notice for current clubs I think. 9 or 10 team Div 7. Anything after that though and makes the setting up of divisions probably too hard?

72 clubs 8 divisions of 9 teams. 18 rounds with 2 bye’s and final 4 with 1 less week of finals. 2 up and 2 down And North & South conferences.

I think I can hear every clubs volunteers clapping from here….

Brighton had on and off discussions with the AdFL for a few years but it was really the start of SANFL Juniors in 2016 that made the decision easier. I reckon it was before the 2016 season commenced that we were locked into joining the AdFL in D3 in 2017. So from memory the AdFL clubs were fully aware before the start of the 2016 season that Brighton were coming into D3 and Morphy Park into D4 in 2017 and how relegation and promotion was impacted by that. As it was, there were only 9 clubs in D4 in 2016 due to one of the situations I will mention below.

And Bedge - it was “current member clubs” that stuffed up in the 2 or 3 years prior that opened the door for clubs coming into D3 and D4. Salisbury West got booted for a year after making a GF, Brahma Lodge lost a heap of GF players and relegated themselves when they should have been promoted and Para Hills won a flag and then folded for a year. So the league could hardly place a lot of trust in some of its member clubs so why not let in clubs they could trust. Marion and OSBL then joined in 2018 which allowed the league to start phasing out C & D grade teams from D7 & D7R.

“The league doesn’t need them”? That statement is based on the league needing all its current clubs. Could be a few that the league wouldn’t be jumping up and down saying that they need them.
