Seemed as keen as in the interview.

We had one the other day, accepted the offer one day, resigned from the offer the next day.
I thought the job market was slowing down, but obviously got a better offer overnight.

We had a bloke last week quit because he didn't want to work with one certain bloke, I was about to make him permanent too, two days later the bloke he didn't like resigned

The work is shit easy and it pays really well, probably too well as the younger ones take a sickie a few weeks in and they still clear $800-$900 for the week, it then becomes habitual.

I have a 47 year old and 21 year old starting next week and then the following, both seem very keen, both have sold themselves well, both are leaving another job to come here, we'll see how this goes.

I have 3 permanent roles vacant atm that I'm hoping these two will fill after 3 months, I am also putting an ad up with Seek for the 3rd role, I find when I put someone straight on to full time they are more reliable, trouble is that I'll get hundreds of applications to read through when using Seek.

We're not destitute, I share the overtime around for the current employees to fill the gaps and everyone is happy.

References.

If I'm going for a new job I will include 3 credible references, I contact them first to ask for their permission and to let them know they may get a phone call.

A pet hate of mine is when someone uses me as a reference but doesn't give me the heads up, it usually helps if I kow what type of job they're going for and what they have said about my working relationship with them and what I need to focus on endorsing.

HR gave me a resumé the other day for someone who looked like a good fit, I opened it up and their experience was something I was looking for and then I done my usual FB stalk and 4 separate accounts with skulls and shit as profile pics tend to make me wary.

I then read through the 6 references and seen I know one of them well, I ring him and his response "why the f*** would he put me as a reference? the bloke is a deadset idiot and I'm counting down the days for his contract to end".

I feel obliged to let the bloke know that perhaps he should choose more wisely when selecting references.

reference the most pointless exercise in any workplace.

Done 1000's of them in my time and only once i have ever had some say anything other than 'their wonderful', 'so reliable', 'can work independently or in a team'

Resumes are getting the same as well. I only bother looking at qualifications/certifications and work history. The rest is either all created by Chat GPT or a work employment agency. The number of times recently I have them about something using the words they wrote in their resume only for them to ask me what that meant or not understand is incredible.

In general references won't say anything negative just be non-committal to any question they don't want to answer positively.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

When my last job was coming to its contracted endpoint I thought I'd better get the ol' CV in order. I emailed a couple of my old referees to make sure they were happy to continue in that capacity. The first bloke I contacted offered me a job. You can't get a better reference than that!
