I know that St Pauls aren't as strict as other schools when it comes to "school footy" first, but how much interest do you think you might get from the current scholars?

Yeah the school doesn't even have a first 18 anymore which hasn't done us any favours so we've taken it upon ourselves to do something about it and entering this team we think should help us.

We've already had a lot of interest from parents at the school and players from other clubs who are current scholars.

We also appointed a coach last night (won't name him in case he hasn't let his old club know yet) who has promised to bring approx. 15 - 20 young lads with him from his previous club who in fact go to the school.

They start pre season next week.

Well that's good news.
I can't believe St Paul's don't have a First 18 anymore.
Why's that?

I wish they didn't have a 1st 18 in 1988... Smacked our 1st 18 to the tune of 53 goals. I scored our only point in the first minute of the game.

Concordia that bad were they? Crikey.

They beat us in the knock-out cup in 93 or 94. On our own dung heap as well.

I'm led to believe in their final first 18 game there was a very large punch up with another school and that was the last straw for the then principal.

It's hard for us to grow as a club when the school puts more money, time and effort into soccer and badminton....yes badminton FFS!

I was a year 10 at the time, and yes we were that bad. Only played the one game of 1st 18, filled in as my older brother had another commitment and I was not due to play for Salisbury until the Sunday.

The school started to take footy a little more seriously after that, even got a heap of Sturt blokes out to help with coaching (had a couple of former Sturt players on the staff at that time).

I'm still scarred though.

i think thats pending a confirmation there riddler, i can check some resources for you but i think there was a lack of players and no enforcment of the rules by the school, plus i rekon most of the year 11 and 12's already play for amature league clubs or SANFL youth teams

I think you'll find that in St Pauls case, there has been a massive increase in Asian student enrolments over the years, and your soccers and Badmintons are the sports that these guys play, so for the minority, they would have to go and find an Amateur Club.

On the OTHER hand.. PNU is a club that struggles to even field an u16 team as the majority of our kids are private school kids and/or are associated with Norwood/North...

yes the increase of asian students have made a massive impact on school football with sports like basketball and soccer being popular with them, also many private schools have a rule that the school sports come first before your club, which st pauls used to have but obviously have scrapped.

i also think that st pauls dont do AFL or Cricket as apart of the PE subject, this may be bacause of insurance issues or just general lack of intrest on behalf of the students which just isnt a good enough promotion of Australian sports. Shame St.puals Shame

just curious, how did the other sides go in div 7 this year? how did wingfield fall apart during finals?
what should the uni c grade expect in relation to div 6 or div c1?
has the standard improved in the last two to three years?
cheers all
