AFL 2025

Talk on the national game

I dont really understand what value an overseas artist brings? The game will sell out anyway, the game will rate well anyway and we aren't trying to grow the game beyond our borders.

I would be OK if its once every few years, but not sure why we need to spend big $'s every year

The AFL have this unhealthy fascination that people watch the AFL for the pre game and half time entertainment. For me, this is when I take off for a beer and a kick of the footy with mates. For those at the game, they also tend to make themselves scarce too.

This is why the AFL want the game under lights. For me, the game is the entertainment, not the artist they wheel out.

Couldn’t agree more. Adds nothing but an unwelcome distraction to the main event.

It’s what they do in the US so the AFL wants to mimic them like they always do.

AFL is a not for profit organisation, yet they give millions to artists who aren't adding any value back to the game, literally $'s leaving our shores. These $'s are generated by the fans essentially. I dont know how they justify it.

The only reason would be to increase TV audiences on GF day.
Not sure many would watch just coz of snoop dog.

Maybe a few cone heads from yesteryear might watch

It’s a pretty bad joke that they hold NFP status … not really in the spirit of how NFPs are supposed to work.

Thought I heard on SEN that the pregame entertainment is paid for by Telstra.

it might be part or all not sure.

But yeah I get your drift, AFL could better spend the money elsewhere to support our great game.

The D-o-g-g is not going to influence in any way how I spend my m-o-n-e-y or where or how I watch the game or if I watch it all.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The entertainment doesn't change if the rusted on fans will watch.
The entertainment changes the fringe viewer.
The entertainment at half time minimises the channel surfing during the 20 minute break.
The entertainment is there to appease the TV channels paying billions.

IMO.

Andrew Dillon talking about fixture equity and how important that is for the AFL when designing the draw…. Absolute rubbish, the AFL considers one metric and one metric only - commercial return.

Blockbuster games, max return and priority timeslots to maximise revenue.

Equity and fairness isn’t on the radar… how stupid does he think we are?

*** in fairness, if he reads this forum he’d be right to assume we’re all pretty stupid.

Listened to an interview with Dillon on SEN this morning. A fun drinking game would be to have a scull every time he uses the word "evolve/evolving" in an interview.

Half time is when you go outside & do burnouts in your mates EH Holden ute while another mate is passed out from playing skull footy because he had Silvagni in the 1st quarter of the 93 GF & Essendon kicked or rushed through 8 points. All of which Silvagni did the kicking in from :D
