The Illawarra Hawks have dropped some big news announcing the signing of import JaVale McGee to a one-year deal. The 7'0" centre played 16 years in the NBA where he won three championships with the Golden State Warriors and LA Lakers and was a member of the USA's gold medal winning team at the Tokyo Olympics. He played last season in Puerto Rico.

Also the Brisbane Bullets have signed import Javon Freeman-Liberty to a one-year deal. He's a 6'3" SG who has previously played in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors and played in Turkey and the G-League last season.

The FIBA Asia Cup starts tomorrow in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and all of Australia's and New Zealand's games will be live on ESPN & Kayo. The Boomers play their opening game on Wednesday August 6 against Korea at 5:30pm, the Tall Blacks first game is tomorrow at 5:30pm against Iraq.

The Boomers have also brought Josh Bannan into the team as a replacement for his injured JackJumpers teammate Sean Macdonald.

A number of signings have been announced the big one is Jack McVeigh returning to the NBL and signing with the Cairns Taipans to a 2 year deal after playing for the Houston Rockets last season.

The SE Melbourne Phoenix have signed import Hunter Maldonado to a one-year deal. He's a 6'6" guard that played in Germany last season.

The Tasmania JackJumpers have signed import Tyger Campbell to a one-year deal. He's a 5'11" PG who also played in Germany last season.

Also Melbourne United have signed Nicolas Tata as a replacement player. He's a 6'10" PF and just played for Nunawading in the NBL1 South.

The Boomers have opened their Asia Cup tournament with a big win tonight.

Australia 97 (McVeigh 20, Galloway 12, Hickey 11, Cooks 10) def Korea 61 (J. Lee 20, H. Lee 11)

Next up for the Boomers is Lebanon at 12:30am on Friday night/Saturday morning.
