Who? Brahma or Smithfield? Or individuals? I must admit, I'm not even convinced there was a free kick in the initial incident.. and given the Smithfield player comes in and escalates the situation, I am amazed they kept the ball and got a 25m penalty.

Yeah without having the best angle i agree.... the two Brahma guys obviously made contact in the contest but didnt appear to raise an elbow or anything to malicious.

Given the Smithfield player is fairly young im guessing that's why they wanted to fly the flag but yeah not much in the initial contest. Maybe slightly high but they definitely didn't 'kill him' like potentially they could have.

Are you guys for real? A skinny kid gets double teamed after he disposed of the ball? The game will turn real sour quickly if you ignore that.

Not saying the Smithfield players were wrong for some small remonstration but

ultimately the kid 'fumbles' / goes at it with one hand and taps it on / rather than picking it up whislt his clear / then slightly fumbles again as he goes to pick it up which gives Brahma the time to get two opponents there. When you slow it down the first opponent is already at him by the time he commences the kicking action and the second brahma player doesn't actually make any or extremely light contact.

Worst case is the first brahma player maybe is just slightly high but i wouldn't say he went in throwing an elbow or hip and shoulder leaving the ground or anything like that.

The end result, one young Smithfield player down, two brahma guys on the scene looks at lot worse than what actually happened.

So coz he’s a “skinny kid” there should be a different set of expectations LM?

Honesty, maybe a FAD but **** me reckon you’d see a dozen worse in every A grade game each week.

I also couldn’t give a **** if he’s a kid - if he’s good enough to play A grade, then he gets treated no different to anyone else.

No but the footage was pretty close and 'fairly' clear on the point of impact and then can slow it down about 8 times.

That's what I was getting at, it should have been an FAD for late front on contact, what appeared to be the 25m penalty was only to where the ball ended up anyway.

I was alluding to the remonstrating from the team mates because it looked shit. You're doing well to upset Micky Lane, one of the most placid blokes I've met.

I'm not sure of the angle you thought I was taking, I was just stating that I thought it was an obvious free kick after you and whuffbags thought it wasn't.

Sorry love!

This shits me to tears too. Had a random bloke on the sidelines in our game V Elizabeth having a crack at us because we went a bit hard on an apparent 16 year old

Like teams are supposed to do a demographic analysis on the opposing team to determine who can and cannot be contested with an aggressive mindset. Or should we ask first before? Does that mean fat old blokes can be king hit?

Just dumb stuff. If they cant handle the physicality, don't play them

Bit different if it's C Grade or B grade maybe where you can perhaps have a kind word at the start of the game to be mindful, but not if you're playing Senior A Grade Football

SFL have the option of underage kids wearing yellow arm bands if they're playing A grade.

Not a bad idea, but can also put a target on your head.

I've always subscribed if you're good enough, you're old enough.

Brahma bench looking to get involved before looks like the boundary umpire shepherds them out of it.
"Ya **** dog" on repeat
#10 from Brahma coming in like a freight train
Where did that Smithfield supporter even come from? :D

All happening!

I love the injured Brahma bloke who was on the bench who had absolutely no interest at all....didnt move a muscle, maybe couldn't move a muscle.

Ice on the knee or quad and zero **** to give!

Most of those involved in the scuffle moved faster to get there than they were when the ball was in play. All a bit embarrassing really.

Young fella shits the nest. Fumbles and then has no left leg so has to come back into traffic to kick. Brahma blokes could have smothered easily but went body instead - reckon I'd have been inclined to do the same back in the day, so fair enough. I'm not even sure it's an FAD. Play on, let's go get a kick.

Yeah can handle the FAD as it was a combination of just the tiniest bit late with maybe the tiniest bit high so benefit of doubt to the ball user and to also ensure control of the game.

I can understand if a Smithfield player turned their head and saw a young lad down and two Brahman lads right there it would have looked bad but watching the video it's no where near as bad as it probably appeared.

The trainer and then the Smithfield spectator getting involved is where it could have got real real nasty.

Late is late, high is high, my opinion still lies with an FAD for late front on contact.

As for the trainer, I hope the Smithfield hierarchy have a word to her about getting too close to the action, even umpires have to stay out of it and let it simmer, if she had copped an accidental stray hit then that fight would still be going now.

As for the spectator, needs to be told that unless you're wearing a MDO vest then you need to stay well away from it, by the looks of it him and Bevo know each other by the way he called him over and he went there immediately in a non-aggressive manner.

15 years ago you just line him up and barrel him, times have changed but each to their own, from an umpiring perspective if you let that one go then you're gonna be in for some carnage for the afternoon.

Did there used to be a rule as to automatic cards for the third/fourth etc men in melees or was that just a junior thing?

Always thought it had some wisdom in terms of deescalation.
