16,445 attended the 5 easter weekend games.

Slightly down on last season (17,144, which was also round 1) but ahead of 2023 and 2022.

Hopefully the pioneers of SANFL Good Friday football are given a home game next season.

ROSS LYON

In the spotlight last round for the spray he gave his players, most notably teenage midfielder Hugo Garcia, a still fired-up Lyon said AFL clubs would be better off running their own breakaway competition than fielding teams in the VFL.

"No wonder AFL clubs talk about, 'Let's have a breakaway group from a 22-team competition and just have four or five clubs that play each other'," he said.

"It's not worth the risk and there's no recompense or consideration or adjustment for the reality of a misaligned fixture of a feeder competition to the AFL so I am absolutely filthy."

AFL clubs want to leave VFL Kochy

Maybe we could trade crows and port

It will be the 100th match between SA and WA in State football, with a 51-48 win-loss record in favour of SA since one of the longest Australian football traditions between the two States began in 1904.

Fos Williams Medallist Casey Voss, Magarey Medallists Will Snelling and Harry Grant, Woodville-West Torrens captain and former SANFL state captain Joseph Sinor, Norwood premiership defender Jack Heard and crafty North Adelaide forward Frank Szekely headline the star-studded inclusions for the hosts.

Leading the West End State Team for a second time this year will be Glenelg premiership captain Liam McBean.

Among the players unavailable for selection are injured trio Flynn Perez (foot), Jack Hayes (knee soreness) and Jez McLennan (calf), while Glenelg veteran Max Proud is being managed.

West End State team coach Darren Reeves will put his team through its paces at training on Wednesday (Glenelg) and Thursday (Prospect) before the contest at 11.30am, which will be the curtain-raiser to the Port Adelaide v Geelong AFL match.

The match kicks off at 11.30 a.m. (10 a.m. for those in the west). It's a curtain raiser to the curtain raiser to the AFL game.

I'm a big fan of state footy, but I can't possibly think of a way this match could be rendered more pointless. Who do they expect to watch?

The SANFL Football commission is dead-set on destroying the competition.

We all need to exert pressure on our club leaders to force the commission to be disbanded.
Then build a new group with people who care about the SANFL.

I will be sending some challenging emails to commission members this week.
Any one else feel this way?
Don't look at me in that tone of voice.
