Strategy is such a key component of cricket and even 50 over games are long enough for an element of strategy such as how Patty masterminded our WC Final victory. But T20 has none. Players and coaches try and talk up their methods but it’s simply a slogfest where the exact same delivery and field placings can go for 6 or be a wicket. Games just blend into the next in these franchise tournaments and I just can’t see the point of it.
I've never really been able to get into the IPL at all and the feeling of the games in franchise tournaments blending together is something I get too (to a lesser extent in the BBL for me because I like seeing the exposure our best domestic players and upcoming young players can get on prime time TV/streaming.)
I read what Locky posts on here and off the back of that every now and again I might look at IPL scores to see how the Australian players are doing but I find myself more interested in what Australia players are doing in county cricket (eg. Fergus O'Neill, Cameron Green and Bancroft, Peter Handscomb, Caleb Jewell and Dan Worrell who's move to England has fascinated me, he's been a gun for Surrey). I don't read any articles, stats or watch anything on the IPL even though it's all over Cricinfo and it's socials. I'm more interested in England's test squad for their test match against Zimbabwe which is expected to be announced tomorrow,.that test match acts as a prelude to the England v India test series.
The hundred scored by 14 year old Vainhav Suryavanshi did peak my interest though and I did watch the highlights of his innings, incredible that he is doing that at 14!
I love the Grade Cricketer guys and they are covering the IPL but even though I usually consume almost all their content I haven't watched or listened to anything content of there's on Instagram or YouTube apart from their video about Suryavanshi's hundred.
