Round 1 kicks off Friday night with Onkas v Nairne. I’ll throw my season predictions out there.

Mt Lofty
Hahndorf
Nairne
Uraidla
Mount Barker
Blackwood
Onkas
Lobethal

Mount Lofty to win the premiership
Hone & Callins for the Medal
Clamp for the goal kicking

They have improved year on year for the past 3-4 just trailing Hahndorf and Nairne. Carmody back from a stint at Glenelg which will help Hone out in the middle. I believe they’ve recruited a key forward from the SANFL system as well which was probably their weakest point, Sykes could kick a goal but was useless otherwise. Hahndorf have lost a few, so have Nairne, and I didn’t want to be vanilla and tip Hahndorf…. But think it’ll be the most even year in a long time.

Good game last night at Balhannah. Onkas nearly causing an upset. 11 points up with a couple of minutes to go.

They haven’t added much, but Mt Barker are in a world of pain. They got smashed in a trial against Athelstone ( Div 2 club) ADFL then got pumped by a ADFL club in Kilburn Div 3 in their next trial, now pumped in round 1 by Uraidla. Don’t know what the issues are but Hahndorf on Anzac Day poses another problem.

Well coached by Matt Down. Mt Barker no structure, no game plan out coached and out played. Uraidla are the sleepers

Takes no genius to figure that Hooper will be the recruit of the year - if Mt Barker can't subdue him somewhat, they've got no hope

Blackwood 0-2 after allot of positive announcements in the off season, they seem to have real issues holding onto their under 17s that graduate into seniors. What’s the issue?

That has been a huge problem, it would be an interesting study to see where all of their u18's have gone over the last 10 years.

However from a quick look 3 of their u18's from last year played A grade on Saturday and another 3 played B Grade with a number also in their C grade.

If they take a long term position and keep promoting the kids it will turn eventually, just need to stay the course.

Yep I agree with that, but they have history of leaving them in hills c grade for two long which is a Mickey Mouse competition. They should be using there reserves exclusively as a development team with 3 or 4 senior heads

I know a few people at the club, and they mention that over the last six years that they have had a good retention rate of turning juniors into senior players.

They more comment that in the years before it wasn’t great and that is where you would then have a large number of players who have played between say 150 and 250 games.

I had a quick look on PlayHQ from the weekends three sides, 49 of 62 named players played juniors at the club (79% percent) which I would say it pretty good.

I think because the boat was missed say between 6-15 years ago with turning the good juniors into seniors it really hurts now. They just need to keep playing the good younger players getting games into them (say once they hit 100 games, they will be better) and then get some serious top end talent in which some of the other sides have.

It’s also hard to go from winning a lot of games by big margins in juniors to playing against hardened senior bodies.

Top of the table clash for grand final rematch between Hahndorf & Nairne this week. Only undefeated sides left, should be a good game!

How do we think the comp is shaping up? Looks like Lobey will contend for finals based off their current form. Nearly pinched Hahndorf and Lofty and accounted for Onkas pretty comfortably.
Looks like Blackwood’s only chance to avoid the spoon is Onkas who seem like a bit ahead of them.
