BSR A grade comfortably knocked off Broughton, in the B Grade Broughton won by about 5 goals, probably carried a few extra numbers than BSR which is a credit to them. Wouldn't have a club how many Broughton were missing in total but BSR had 12-13 blokes not playing across both grades which is pretty standard for us at this time of the year. A good day out, a good hit out in what proved to be warm conditions.

Heard South Clare got belted in both grades by Balak.

Heard North Clare went down to Southern Flinders which is interesting as the week before South Clare easily accounted for them. Once again wouldn't have a club who is/was playing for either side.

North Clare to take on Burra this Thursday night I believe.

Heard that North Clare beat Southern Flinders

Eudunda Robertstown lost to Solomontown by about 3 goals but was a good contest both teams with a few out, and Blake Launer had a run around for the saints.

BBH knocked off North Clare last night at Clare Oval.

BSR white guernseys beat BSR black guernseys in a close three quarter internal last night.

Min Man to play Balak this weekend I believe.

Finally........................ROUND 1 is here!!!!

A few predictions to get the ball rolling.

South Clare vs BBH

A Grade: Not expecting either side to make a run at the finals but both sides need to start with the year with some momentum. Both sides have a new coach this year and a few recruits. BBH has had a couple of wins in the off season, whilst South won 1 lost 1 but against much tougher opposition. At Clare Oval i would expect South Clare to get the win by 20-30pts.

B Grade: Not convinced South will be as strong in the B Grade this year but will still have more than enough to get over BBH who are struggling for numbers.

Southern Saints vs BSR

A Grade: Last years grand finalists in the game of the round. The Saints have kept their cards close to their chest so really don't have a great read on this one. IMO BSR A Grade will be an improved side, is that good enough to knock the Saints of away from home not sure. BSR by 2 points.

B Grade: If we see the same Saints as last year, they will be extremely hard to beat and may not lose to many if any games. Once again not overly clear who will/won't go around for them but i expect most will. With that in mind Saints by 10 goals.

RSMU vs North Clare

A Grade: RSMU have been one of the most active in the off season with some serious quality coming in. On the other hand North Clare have lost a bunch of good footballers. Put simply RSMU will be a top 3 side and North Clare wont be. RSMU by 10 goals.

B Grade: This will be a tighter affair. RSMU were the most improved B Grade side last year and with quality added to the A Grade that may filter through to the b grade if they have kept the players from last year. At North Clare much loved Ben Reschke will take the reign and no doubt be able to bring in some blokes to strengthen the B Grade. North will be an improved side but cant help but think RSMU will be a top 4 side this year, so the Hawks by 5 goals.

Blyth/Snowtown vs Min Man

A Grade: The Cats had the edge over Min Man causing a few upsets last year. A couple of BMW lads who played against Blyth in a trial said they were impressive so maybe we can expect them to improve. In saying that Min Man are another club that has had a great off season with some serious elite recruiting. For mine Min Man will play finals this year and will start their campaign with a 3-4 goal win over Blyth.

B Grade: Probably the hardest game of the week to get a read on. Based off the trials and a few blokes who played in b grade trials for Min Man they will be seriously improved with their recruiting filtering through. Blyth is a hard one to read, are all the old boys going around again, will they be as good as the previous year. Lots of unknowns in this one. Ill go with Blyth by 2-3 goals but not very confidentially.

Great to have footy back and an interesting first round.

A couple of trends from last years A Grade continued with Blyth/Snowtown getting over Min Man and North Clare beating RSMU. Both results werent what i was expecting.

BSR A Grade looking real strong once again and South Clare beating BBH would have surprised no one.

B Grade had some interesting results. A cracker game between the Saints and BSR with the Saints getting up by 2 goals. Had a tad too much B Grade class in Voight, Schmidt, Clarke and Mosey.

Blyth/Snowtown just getting over Min Man was about what most would of thought.

Surprised to see a draw between RSMU and North Clare...on paper i had RSMU winning that won easy but we know about games on paper.

BBH with a few of the old heads back in the B Grade upset South surprisingly.

Let’s get real
Let’s gift wrap the flag and hang it up at Spalding oval so it’s ready for grand final day

You could pick a 22 from the other 7 teams and they might be competitive

Well a starting point would be making sure the 7 other A Grades sides are picking their best 21 players in the A Grade.

That would be the first step of closing the gap. I've never played in any comp football, rugby, soccer, cricket where so many blokes who are clearly in their sides A Grade are sitting in their clubs b grade than in the NEFL. I know there is the do/don't train, old/young and all the other factors but geez there is a lot of it, more than I am accustomed to seeing.

Was up at Clare on Friday night, I thought the standard of the game was pretty good considering the defensive tactics used by both coaches (2 behind the ball) which obviously made it a scrap and low scoring, thought South Clare looked very dangerous and quick when they did get the ball into space,

The B grade was good fun to watch, country lads of all ages/sizes out there having a crack and enjoying the game.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Hope to catch up with you across the season.

Yeah the B Grade is genuinely fun football. There is ex A Grade Mail Medalists right through to first time footballers all making for an interesting spectacle, moments of brilliance, followed what the hells, follow by lol's. 99% of games always played in great spirits as well.

Not going argue with you here

Totally agree a lot of pathetic individuals at the other 7 clubs that are all for themselves not the club
Credit to BSR
The culture is defined by the whole not the individual
They need to go for 10 in a row # that’s a legacy

Why would BBH only have 12 points? Blyth and South Clare have 15?
And more to the point why would BSR have 6?
Surely the 3 bottom feeders above should have 18 and BSR 3 max. What they are really saying with those points is that BBH are just 2 decent players away from being competitive with BSR, what a joke. I suspect it doesnt matter anyway as its not easy to attract players of quality but surely BSR could be stripped of points after what is it 5 in a row?

Another decent weeks of games in both grades.

Saints just got the points against North Clare in the A Grade. At this stage of the year i think the Saints will take that given their injuries at the moment. North Clare do look to be better than most including myself have giving them credit for.

The B Grade saw the upset of the year with North Clare knocking off last years premiers. Reschke was always going to get something out of them but not sure many picked that one.

An undermanned BSR with 3 Hayes and 2 x Longbottoms out got the job done in a comfortable fashion in the A Grade. A tighter affair in the b grade but BSR just batted a bit deeper with depth despite the numbers out to get the win.

Most were shocked by Min Mans performance in round 1 in both grades but this week we have seen the Min Man we believe they are. Massive wins in both grades against South Clare. The B Grade margin was somewhat of a surprise.

Blyth with a comfortable couple of wins against BBH as expected. Great start from them with both grades 2-0.

Another interesting round coming up with a few good match ups.

BBH vs North Clare
North Clare are exceeding outside expectations in both grades and 'should' have a comfortable day out at Burra on the weekend. Only spanner in the works might be the Burra Oval factor. BBH always worth a few extra goals at home.

RSMU vs Blyth/Snowtown
One of the two cracker A Grade games this week. Have to admit RSMU were a tad disappointing last week against BSR with all the hype. On the other hand B/S are up and about in both grades. A grade will be a close affair but cant help but feel B/S might just get over the line with the bit of winning confidence they have at the moment.

Would also expect B/S to win somewhat comfortably in the B Grade.

Southern Saints vs Min Man
The other massive A Grade game for the round. The injury ravaged Saints would want the win at home to head into the bye 2-1. Min Man will be a massive challenge though and showed last week against weaker opponents that they could be the attacking threat we thought they might be. Real hard one to pick this.....maybe the Saints just.

B Grade game of the round imo. Should be a real close affair but Min Man appear to have a very solid midfield which may just get them over the line by a goal or two.

South Clare vs BSR
Probably hard to see any other result than an A Grade win for BSR. 6 blokes back into the side from last week versus an apparently injured ravaged South.

B Grade should be a closer affair, but most would expect BSR to just get over the line given the current form lines.

Will see how Blyth is going this week playing RSMU, that game and min man Saints probably the pick of the games for this weekend, the other two shouldn’t be close, but north did lose a trial to Burra a month ago so you never know.

Another week in the bag done and dusted.

A Grade
North Clare and BSR got their jobs done as most would have anticipated.
B/S continue their hot form and got over RSMU by less than a goal in the game of the round.
Min Man are starting to look like the team their recruits suggested upsetting and injury plagued Saints. With BSR after the bye the Saints are in danger of going 1-3.

B Grade
Once again North Clare and BSR had comfortable wins as expected.
Min Man's depth looks to be real solid beating an undermanned Saints.
B/S look the favourites in the B Grade and had a nice win over RSMU who look likely to be a bottom 3 type side.
