Off the top of my head and I’m sure there are many more that were missed but Brett Wakefield and Mick Ashby were quality footballers

Best players I’ve seen watching Div 2 in my time:
-Sam Hanna
-Brad Pearce
-Paul James
-Chad Dawe
-Ben Hanna
-Brady Dawe
-Ryan McGahey

And don’t forget when Nairne and Echunga were dominant in Div 2, some players from those sides could easily make that list!

Brett Wakefield and Josh Hill bloody stiff to miss that list imo.

Yeah great shout. Ashby could turn a game off his own boot and was impossible to stop when he got going, super damaging. Wakefield similar! Hill the best undersized full forward I’ve seen behind Gene Robinson.

How did all the trials go on the weekend? I assume with most competitions starting this week or next, all trials are done and it's now time to wait for Rd 1?

Gumeracha Vs Kersbrook - should be a great start to the season 2 pretty even teams, with gums losing a few and Kersbrooks improvement last year I would say Gums still but only just.
Macclesfield Vs Meadows - Big ins at Macclesfield this year, been a while since Maccy beat their next door rivals. Whilst Meadows have also recruited well I'd say Macclesfield to kick their season off with a win by 7 points.
Echunga Vs Torrens Valley - Echunga lost some but still too strong for Torrens. Echunga by 7 goals
Kangarilla Vs Birdwood- I think Kangarilla are well set up with some key recruits to go one step further this year and will be too good Rd 1 for Birdwood- at kangy. Kangy by 5 goal

should be a close top 5-7

Going to be (another) long year for Torrens Valley. Minimal recruits, lost a heap from last season, and largely relying on youthful locals who will take time to develop. Will be surprised if they get close to winning a game, but hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

Interesting that one Country Division recruit had actually agreed to sign with a rival club, before the club he ended up signing with had even got out of bed.
Bound to create interest when the time comes

If Kersbrook are finishing 3rd Gumeracha will white wash the comp again, which ain't going to happen. The Gum v Kersbrook game was average football at best. Gumeracha certainly arnt the team they have been the last few years but perhaps that's why it looked average as both teams are exactly that. Neither team had any stand out players in my opinion.
I havnt kept up with in/outs re Echunga but when bridgewater and mt lofty come back to country comp with depleted teams they flogged everyone.

Mt Lofty weren't depleted the year (2014 IIRC) they were in Div 2.
They had a better side than what they had in 2013 & 2015

If Meadows are finishing above Maccy they'll need to pick up about 20 players based on today.

People writing Gum off would want to be careful

The pundits picked Macclesfield to finish last or 2nd last.

Time will tell

Even with the outs of Echunga I’d be surprised if they’re not sitting pretty by the end of the year. Big gap between D1 and 2. No one in div 1 could slow Brett Turner down, he will tear the comp apart.

A div 1 premiership B grade team would beat the best of country div A Grade.
