Port Adelaide's free agent Kane Farrell is closing in on a new five-year contract at the Power, tying him to the club until the end of 2030.

Another name to be wiped off the free agency list.

How long did Dan Houston sign an extension for?

I coached the lad at Centrals a couple of years ago, absolute bull with a great work ethic. I'd love to see him get a game.

He's in, rookie draft pick #13 in for his debut.

True. Had a similar experience with Nige when our kids were in the same sports team. Quite the strut and smirk on old Nige...

Put simply we're off. Midfield? Off. Forward? Off. Defence? Off.

St Kilda can walk around Adelaide on their week long stay ahead of Gather Round well pleased with their first outing at Adelaide Oval this week as they defeated Port Adelaide by 17 points on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The first 30 minutes of the contest effectively put the game to bed, 6 goals to 1 in favour of the visitors on the back of leading clearances 11-4. The midfield of Macrae (3), Garcia (2) and Windhager (2) combined for 7 clearances and immediately had Port's back half under pressure and it's pressure they haven't coped with all year.

With the midfield getting beaten up the back half is under the pump and that "off" I mention above, while not consigned to the back half, is most evident there. We knew, even in our heart of hearts, Dan Houston would be impossible to replace but we did however have faith that the likes of Sinn, Evans and Burgoyne could go someway to filling that gap. What we seemingly forgot is they've played 13, 16 and 39 games of AFL football and all of them are still finding their feet ( you could argue Burgoyne has ) and it has shown when we've been on the back foot.

We've found ourselves on the back foot in all but one match this year and in the main, from my view, it's been on the back of effort. I have a theory though on why that's the case. We look lost when we move the ball forward, sure Georgiades, Lord and JHF all bagged 3 goals yesterday but against a side who leaks goals ( St Kilda 6th worst back half ) you'd expect your forwards to get some looks. Those looks though are awful at times and the movement from the back half where modern footy launches attacks has been poor.

Lists are built to play a certain way, for 10 years Port have played contested ball to kick long to the front half ( Dixon ) and lock it in grinding opposition down with repeated entries and playing front half footy. Seemingly in one summer we're piggy backed onto the likes of Hawthorn and GWS who look to move the ball by hand and open up space in the front half with running patterns the game hasn't seen much of until the last 18 months. Thing is our list isn't built for that. Granted the loss of Marshall and Lukosius sent the summers plans into disarray and it looks as though the players replacing them haven't been able to adapt. I will note how much better we looked with Lord in to help Georgiades yesterday, hopefully a sign of some positive footy to come.

The return of Butters was a success, 30 touches and 5 tackles a welcome return. Aliir held up in the back half under plenty of pressure and Powell-Pepper probably had his most consistent game after missing the year with his ACL. The clear stand out though was Horne-Francis who responded to the heat he was put under last week, 28 touches, 3 goals, 6 marks, tackles and clearances and he's by far and away Ports best in an otherwise familiar lack luster affair.

Boon's best - Horne-Francis, Georgiades, Aliir, Butters, Powell-Pepper
PAFC. Forever.
