They refused to pay the clearance fee for Tom Lewis which would indicate to me that they will not just take anyone. Looking for low games numbers in the SANFL.

Really? Wonder if he approached Port like McLennan did?

Ok, not to be a prick about things, but here's the facts. He's been passed over in the past 19 drafts (national, rookie and mid-season). He's also been passed over for an SPP spots, not sure if he's ever been invited as a train-on?

He is a very good SANFL player, but IMO he doesn't have any AFL attributes, hence never featuring in a draft. I've seen him play since he was about 15, and even though he worked really hard on his fitness and his defensive side, he was always lacking against the guns of his age group. I admire people's want to improve themselves, but we can't all be brain surgeons or rocket scientists. Same goes for footballers, they can't all be AFL players, and unfortunately for Tom, he's not an AFL footballer.

You are not being a prick at all.

A very good summation I feel.

There are players at all levels that have aspirations not quite meeting reality. But some of them through persistence and hard work do get a crack at some time. Noble from Westies a good example.

Noble is quick, AFL clubs love speed.

Dudley got signed by Freo. Great news for him. I'm sure there will be the usual sooks about it. It opens up a spot for someone to take. Only a good reflection of Centrals and potential players coming in to the Doggies will see it as a positive that we can develop players.

Dont think so.. it’s like when they get drafted. Chuffed for Duds and hope he makes the most of the opportunity. Opens the door up for someone else to fill his shoes at the Ponderosa . Jack maybe?

Proud of Dudley. Grew up with his old man and Izzy has had to push through lots of barriers that many of would have given up from.

Can’t wait to watch to his journey at Fremantle.

You get 1/8th of the payment the SANFL gets for any player that gets drafted

Yeah, didn't this get changed a few years ago? To help out the clubs who weren't having players drafted and not getting payments

My take is it is designed so all clubs/SANFL are focused on development of the system in this state, rather than their own patch - which naturally gets looked after anyway.

I've never understood this change. Basically penalises those clubs who decide to invest hard in a player's development and rewards those clubs that opt out.

Furthermore, it acts as a bit of a counterweight to those clubs deciding to put their cash into recruiting a mature 'marquee' players versus those that decide to put it into junior development.

McAndrew out for the Legs.. assuming he was an “in” at some stage. How does that leave their ruck department looking?
