I've been wondering when he would retire, especially after being left out for Sundar in the first test (along with Jadeja). I know his age and that his form has dipped but how India don't play him as a regular for quite some time now still amazes me, it must be a luxury to just leave out one of the best cricketers of this generation.dedja wrote:Trav says he’ll be OK.
Ravi Ashwin has announced his retirement, effective immediately.

He’ll be right
Nothing that some Xmas ham and a 30 pack of West End can’t fix for Xmas lunch

If not for the weather Australia would more than likely be leading the series 2 - 1
Reality is that it's 1 - 1
And many on here are calling for mass changes![]()

Fact is that the 3 Tests so far have seen pitches and conditions well in favour of the pace bowlers with spinners having very little impact.
On top of conditions being in favour of pace bowling more than batting, Australia are having to deal with Bumrah who will more than likely going down as one of the finest pacemen of all time !
The wash up of it all is that batsmen from BOTH sides are struggling big time with the exception of some cameos
Head with 2 tons has benefited both times coming in after 30 - 40 overs have been taken off the new ball
All other batsmen with the exception of Carey have struggled
Kawahja, McSweeney, Marsh have all failed to make a 50 whilst Labuschagne and Smith both only have the 1 notable score.
Plenty of talk about all those 5 being dropped for various reasons etc with Smiths ton giving him a reprieve for now.
So who to replace them with and will they do better with the series on the line the next 2 Tests?
Aust may or may not be forced to bring in another batsman if Head doesn't come up.
Of the others Marsh appears to be the one especially if not gonna bowl much.
For those saying McSweeney isn't up to it, geez give the guy a break. Couldn't have had a tougher initiation and i'm pretty sure if they had gone with anyone else they wou;dn't have faired much better if any either.
The last thing the selectors need to do is panic and make mass changes tho may be forced to make 1 or 2 anyway.
Again keep in mind if not for the weather Australia would have been 2 - 1 up so not all is as bad as many are making it out to be.

They way they were speaking was that it was 'inside knowledge' not just speculation.
Does that mean a Khawaja retirement at the end of this series or McSweeney to go down the order where he is probably better suited.

Go home for Christmas or hang around the dressing room with Virat. It's a no brainer.
