It’s called a "sports scholarship" or "academic scholarship," VERY VERY VERY easy to hide and say it has nothing to do with Tex. Well played by PAOC.

The old colls teams really set themselves up with the points system and now this.

The salary cap doesn't apply if he doesn't play

His kids would only just be coming to school age now.

I suspect such a scheme would be undone by the simple question have you ever given a sports or academic scholarship to a five year old before?

Seems to be one of the rare instances with smoke but no fire

That is, of course, if his kids are starting at PAC in primary. Nothing against a senior school scholarship

"Assistant Coach here and your kids will get a scholarship in 7-8 years" seems somewhat conspiratorial.

What would be very interesting is the hypothetical pay an assistant coach a packet for 2025, noting because of other commitments they'd only be able to do a bit of assistant coaching, and then sign them next year for $400 per game such that over two years you've provided a benefit in excess of what the cap would permit.

Hell of a risk on the club's part though in good will/change of plans/injuries etc.

Full credit to the PAOC committee...clever, innovative and done a number on all the other clubs in Div 1 with some foresight....whilst it might seem a risk in one sense it could be a huge return on Invesment for the club if Walker fronts in 2026 for a kick (or even mid season of 2025 if he is struggling at AFL level and gives it away). Not a PAOC supporter or fan but well played to the Committee

Could this be a sign of things to come? Dizzies get an ex-Power player each year, PAC get an ex-Crow

Think you’ll find this has to do with connections that PAC members have rather than the connection to PAC as a school.

Regardless, this is all great for ammo footy

It is good for the comp, but there a few points to be made.

1. It’s evidence of the old collegians teams taking advantage of the rules they largely set up to benefit themselves. They are the group of clubs who can best offer benefits outside of the salary cap.

2. ‘District’ clubs essentially have to try to create monster junior programs to be at the top of div 1. That’s bloody hard to do. College teams do none of that and take the rewards of being associated with a school.

3. It’s fun to stir shit on the internet.

4. White privilege/the patriarchy needs to be dismantled.

College or district - recruiting and maintaining players is hard work and you play to your strengths - no system is perfect and flawless

Why all the crap about Tex coahing at Prince Alfred......its good for footy...... Just read Zane Kirkwood at Pooraka.......how good.

Who really cares about salary caps......scholarships from schools......lurks and perks

The only ones complaining.......are the clubs who can't do the lurks and perks......or they'd also be doing it.....Fact

Good for the game when these types of blokes are playing.....or coaching.....in the lower competitions like Amateurs and country leagues

Stop whining.......be happy.....stop being jealous.....be glad that these blokes are passing on knowledge

The salary cap......perks......lurks......brown paper bags. Going on all over the state........stop being obsessed with it.....cause no one will stop it

Of course it’s the clubs who don’t have the means to pay players with brown paper bags are the ones complaining, the clubs who are, are playing with a different rule book, which is a justified reason to complain.
