But that also means they have a system that allows young players with talent to get a chance and not have 28–32-year-olds clogging up all the teams.

Maybe this is an advantage of having 38 teams, noting the BCCI were concerned about the quality of depth having that many teams so have completely restructured the Ranji Trophy to include an Elite Competition to counter this.

Should CA consider a slight restructure to the shield comp or is it a case of it's been successful for a very long-time business as usual. What changes could be made......just ideas not all perfect

-Shield Cricket to be played whilst the entirety of the home test season is being played.
-Should contracted CA players be 'forced' to play the opening two shield games unless injured
-Should there be a 'state academy team' maybe a provision to allow them to have 2 overage players. What would that look like?
-On the other hand, should a rule be enforced each state team must play with (3) blokes under the age of 23.
-Should we do nothing at all, it's just swings and roundabouts and weve been on top the most.
-Do we need more teams, maybe one from Canberra and one from the NT, may dilute the quality but would give more players an opportunity.
-Does the format of the Shield need to change, more overs, play over 5 days, different point system.
There certainly needs to be something done to bring youth into the shield comp. Last round there was only one teenager (Sam Kontas) and less than 20% of the players were under 25. The cricket academy used to provide a pathway producing ready made players. It no longer seen to be the case. Either that or a whole lot of older guys are maintaining there positions because they can now earn a good full time wage playing. Beats getting a “real job”

- Bring in the ACT and CAU21 as 7th and 8th teams
- Combine the BBL/Shield/One Day squads as one, but keep the branding for BBL
- Thunder to ACT, Renegades to CAU21
- No one day cricket until February
- One BBL game every Fri N and Sat N in Oct/Nov/Dec except when the WACA Test and Adelaide D/N Test is on
- Two Shield games between 4 teams not playing BBL on Fri or Sat night, alternate throughout Oct/Nov/Dec
- A full round of Shield when the WACA Test is on, when the Adelaide D/N Test is on and from the 20-23rd of December
- A break from the Shield between Christmas and January, recommences in February
- The remainder of the BBL season commences Boxing Day, on every day as is now, with Final around Australia Day
- The one day comp and Shield comp run and won over February and March

If the Australian Test summer finishes by the Sydney Test, I think that full round of Shield games before Christmas is preparation enough for the final 2 Tests of the summer.

SA and TAS have been successful as States where excess players (Lyon/McSweeney/Watson etc) can play, ACT could be similar. Cricket Australia U21 side would give the young players exposure and hopefully fast track some that might not currently get an opportunity?

Aussies are used to Friday night Footy. Maximise commercial opportunity by running straight into BBL on a Friday and Saturday night from October, running simultaneously with the Shield. Still can bring in international players for the stint from Boxing Day-Australia Day to finish the season.

Why “alleged”?

Boland a certainty to play, others added as net bowlers.

"alleged" as he seemed fine bowling in the last test, seems a bit of a coincidence after his presso

Ian Redpath 83
Very courageous and very under rated Victorian and Australian batsman

Was out Mankad OZ V WI 1969 Adelaide Oval
I was at the gams , watched Ian walk off the ground run out without realising it was a Mankad
