C9 news saying Rome Burgoyne to play SANFL for Port next season. Love that rule where the AFL side can pinch a local player. Good work SANFL.

Thanks "Doc"
Power very easy to read, do no favours for SANFL clubs at all.
The reason for Rome sliding to the magpies is that it allegedly gives Rome more chance of being AFL drafted.
How long is he allowed to stay at the magpies in the hope he might be drafted.
After three years they should be shunted back th their original SANFL club.
SANFL clubs nurture them and then shat on.

It's pretty obvious these kids aren't AFL standard, I see Atkinson from Sturt has gone down the same path at the Crows.
It's a shameless grab at filling their reserves teams with the alure of "developing" in an AFL environment.

Can polish a turd all day long, at the end of the day it's just a shiny turd.

Personally I've got no real problem with them adding the 18-20 year olds to their lists in an attempt to develop them into potential draftees.

However you can get kids to achieve their dream, especially the kids who arent standouts as they take time to develop, so it's going to be a slow burn for kids who realistically arent in the best 25 at their league club anyway.

Also how can you not appreciate a kid like Burgoyne playing at a club where his family's name is synonymous?

My thoughts on the over 21s are well documented.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Devil's advocate here, if the young lads sign for Port or Adelaide, and the AFL teams have no injuries, does this mean they then go back and play local footy? Not sure how that helps development.

At least the Crows actually drafted Welsh. Interestingly, I think he came last in the time trials and one of the State coaches said he thinks Welsh would have developed better in the SANFL club environment.

I think this one is a bit different, Welsh always seemed destined to be drafted, maybe he got a bit ahead of himself this year?

Under the new rules they go back and play SANFL reserves which is where they'd most likely be playing anyway at a SANFL club.

As much as I hate it, the two VFL franchises here in Adelade do have all the resources (human and facilities) that the SANFL clubs dont have to assist a young athletes development.

I truly wonder if they were foxing to get him to slip, easy to leak his time trials were terrible.

Was always going to Adelaide, the only doubt was what pick.

Reckon it was his time trial at the state combine that was the shocker, that data goes to every club.

I'm torn between them foxing and him not quite as hard as he could over the season.
