Preliminary Final - Central District v Glenelg

Postby Jim05 » Mon Sep 09, 2024 9:55 am

Hopefully they beat the hell out of each other but the Bays will have too much firepower. If Grace is held I’m not sure the Dogs can kick a winning score. They will need to find a way to kick 10-12 goals minimum to be a chance

On the telecast yesterday, Hosie seemed to think he'd be right to play. Forecast for Sunday is looking good, too.

Unfortunately for the young pups, I reckon this is pretty close to the mark. Bays quite comfortably I’d think

Bays looked to strong for Sturt, you'd think that would be the case against the Dogs.

The Bays have played 3 decent matches in 3 months, 2 happen to be the last 2 weeks in finals, but that’s not a great lead-up to a prelim.

The Dogs aren’t going to go away easily.

Hosie may be a risk if he plays, Gould had back spasms so is no certainty, and McGree has been carrying an ankle injury, so the match committee have some decisions to make.

Put all that together, and it’s genuinely 50/50.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

That explains a lot, it was one of the better Herman Munster impersonations I've ever seen yesterday!

10
Barrie Robran
Bo Derek
Roger Woodcock
Mitre 10
Gazzamagoo 10 coffees on the Parade every day
8- 2 =10 scoring shots CD v ST
5- 5 =10 scoring shots CD v NW

CD prob need to score 12 goals to beat GL ?

CD have a hope
Forget the NW Devils loss
B4 that they gave NA/GL/ST starts in games and beat them
On that form they are a chance

TIP
GL 10 points

Just a bit of history …

The Bays have made the GF from the Elimination Final as follows, lost all 6:

1970 - 4th (final 4), lost to Sturt in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1974 - 4th, lost to Sturt in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1982 - 4th, lost to Norwood in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1987 - 4th, lost to North in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1988 - 4th, lost to Port in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1992 - 4th, lost to Port in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)

Prelim Final record W15, L3 - 3 Premierships:

1934 - 2nd (final 4), defeated Sturt in the Prelim, defeated Port in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1950 - 2nd (final 4), defeated Port in the Prelim, lost to Norwood in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1953 - 4th, lost to Port in the Prelim
1959 - 4th, lost to Port in the Prelim
1969 - 1st (final 4), West in the Prelim, lost to Sturt in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1970 - 4th (final 4), defeated Port in the Prelim, lost to Sturt in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1974 - 4th, defeated Port in the Prelim, lost to Sturt in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1977 - 2nd, defeated West in the Prelim, lost to Port in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1981 - 1st, defeated Norwood in the Prelim, lost to Port in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1982 - 4th, defeated Port in the Prelim, lost to Norwood in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1986 - 2nd, defeated Woodville in the Prelim, defeated North in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
1987 - 4th, defeated Norwood in the Prelim, lost to North in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1988 - 4th, defeated Norwood in the Prelim, lost to Port in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
1992 - 4th, defeated Eagles in the Prelim, lost to Port in the GF (6 day break between Prelim & GF)
2008 - 1st, defeated Sturt in the Prelim, lost to Central in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
2009 - 1st, lost to Sturt in the Prelim
2019 - 1st, defeated Crows in the Prelim, defeated Port in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)
2021 - 1st, defeated South in the Prelim, lost to Eagles in the GF (7 day break between Prelim & GF)

It was hard recalling those sorry results

Central Prelim record W1, L5 (I think, happy to be corrected)

1971 - lost Prelim to Port
1972 - lost Prelim to Port
1979 - lost Prelim to Port
1994 - lost Prelim to Port

Didn’t we finish minor premier in 1969?

Also I think you’re missing our 1953 and 1959 Preliminary final losses

Do you even Glenelg?? ;)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The Dogs, while gutsy, have only had 10 scoring shots in the two finals, and the Bays will have too many scoring options.

I expect the Dogs will have more than 10 scoring shots, and might even come out swinging and kick a few goals early on, but the Bays will win 16.14 to 9.7.

It's been our problem for a long time now,we don't score enough.
Plenty of inside 50s last game but rushed kicks or just bomb it long.
We don't create enough run to break the lines,so it's usually a hope for the best when we go forward.

76 and the Des Foster show you've forgotten - Kerls at the Footy Inquest show on the Sunday - "stay out of my way Dessie...."

Maybe Sturt used all their Des Foster karma up in the 76 Prelim and 78 was just a correction???
