It is their job to look after the real SANFL clubs not the AFL sooks particularly Port

A footy friend thinks Port wish to be Peel thunder that’s Fremantles second team going for their second flag in a row .
Few years ago an eagles fan who is in with port told me that port don’t want a magpies team in the SANFL they want to take over the eagles play their seconds in the eagles . If that happens I’ll stop being a eagles member and attending the SANFL

I'm hoping the SANFL can stand firm. On this occasion it shouldn't be hard, Port/Crows have no alternatives with the AFL shutting off the AFL reserves option.
Port: "We demand these extra concessions"
SANFL: "Or else what?"

It defies logic that the SANFL seemingly continue to bend over to the AFL teams … there is very little upside to keeping them in the comp.

Port’s continuing shifting arguments are non-sensical. If they are being so shafted, then how come their senior team is 2nd on the AFL ladder? For any club, that is the benchmark, not where the reserves are on the ladder.

At the end of the day it’s just a naked backdoor grab for players.

The SANFL should simply ignore their squealing. In fact, they should threaten to revert to the old system of aligning AFL listed players to SANFL clubs and remove the AFL teams altogether. Even better, just remove them. Port have no plan B, they are faarked if the SANFL hold firm and call the bluff.

As stated previously, there must be some pressure from the AFL behind the scenes, which is typical of the underhand and cowardly way the AFL operates.

Port defeated South in the 2014 Preliminary Final, depriving South of an opportunity to get their first flag since 1964. Yet, some people don't understand why South support has dropped off. One of my worst days at the football was when Central were knocked out the finals race by Adelaide, Adelaide's two best players Hately and Milera. I wouldn't be going to the SANFL if my club had voted yes. Credit to South supporters that can still follow the SANFL after it's lost all integrity.

What concessions are they giving South, Central, West that haven't played in a GF since the arrival of the AFL reserves teams? Why are they giving these AFL teams that don't give a stuff about the SANFL, ("I can't wait until we're out" says Koch,), getting further concessions? Don't give the whiners concessions and see what happens? Are the people that make these decisions at SANFL level doing so to set themselves up for a future AFL job, like so many of their predecessors?

Quite clearly Koch runs the SANFL with his bullying & sooking he will get what he wants.
Gutless SANFL dont stand up to him
The 3 CEOS mentioned this morning Sue Dewing (Sturt) Craig Burton(North ) & Greg Edwards need to front their respective boards & members
to explain why the concessions they are giving the 2 AFL sides benefits the competition.
Will they be accountable next season and beyond when the 2 AFL sides more than likely dominate
They are paid big bucks by their clubs and they should be they priority.
They can also explain why clubs have to lose one of their best players and from the U21s

Is it because the SANFL needs AFL money in whatever form it looks like e.g. game development and participation etc? With that in mind SANFL have to kowtow to the AFL and if that means ensuring Port is a competitive organisation in the AFL and that includes being able to develop their players in a competitive 'reserves' team in SANFL. I can't see any other reason why the SANFL just regularly cave to Port and Crow demands.

Spot on.. if the AFL can get the SANFL to appease Port it reduces the pressure being put on them to spend up big on a reserves comp..

Agree the AFL don't want to fund a national reserves competition.

Having sat through a 25 goal thumping at Alberton 10 years ago in year one of this malarky I know things go in cycles especially when the top up rules weren't as advantageous as they are to the VFL franchises. Funnily enough you beat last years premier last

What cant happen is the rules are made so advantageous for the two VFL franchises in the SANFL (can pick any player they want out of the SANFL in November and June) and then pick up, up to 10 players each from SANFL rivals after that is well. There has to be some balance so the eight true footy clubs in this state don't become glorified training cones for their reserves.

There has to be a time when we push back and say no to this this number and we preserve some degree of integrity in the SANFL.

Our stance should be you played finals last year, you've played in 3 GFs, were not going to make a knee jerk reaction based on one season lets revisit this in 2 years as per the original agreement in 2013 to keep reviewing player eligibility rules
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I asked Meggsy last night what my club's stance is on this issue,
he went very political,
didn't answer the question,
just said "We're stuck with the mid-season draft, we can't do anything about that" (I didn't ask about that),
then said, "the AFL reserves sides can't take players out of the 8 sanfl clubs",
yes we know that FOR NOW,
I said again, what does the club think about that,
he replied with "It's not up to the club"

We're done.

FURTHERMORE.................
what happens at the end of the 2028 season, when this 15 year farce is up?
Do the 8 clubs have any say in what happens??

The more I think about this, the more I'm getting fired up!
Surely it's a conflict of interest if the CEO of a SANFL club is elected to go on a board to submit a vote that isn't in the best interests of his club?
If the CEO agrees to strengthen another SANFL side, then that goes against the best interests of his club that employs him?
Should be sacked on the spot!

We had this issue when the original vote was taken to admit the AFL teams. Glenelg and Norwood in particular come to mind.

The problem is that club members are generally apathetic, and as the only means to make boards, and therefore presidents accountable, they generally can do as they please. You would like to think that most times they have the club’s interests at heart, and in the main these are good honest people, but this issue seems to have opened up a gap between them and the supporters/members.

This is because they don’t or won’t share the info they receive from the SANFL, which includes the realities of the politics of dealing with the AFL.

I’d prefer more transparency, and even tried to make that happen a while back, but gave up because very few gave a shit.
